Book: The Anthropologists Author: Aysegul Savas Genre: contemporary fiction Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review: Wow, what a quietly enchanting little novel this was. The cover is what initially drew my eye, but I stayed for the mesmerizing, elegant exploration of two people finding a home in each other rather than in a physical space. This story felt like a looking glass into the mundane of everyday life, somehow turning all of it into something beautiful. The prose was precise and sharp, but woven together so delicately. This book was an ode to monogamy: quiet mornings over coffee and pastries, getting drunk at your favorite dive bar, navigating familial pressure and expectations, and the solidity that comes with finding your person. Ultimately, it is a tender exploration of all the ordinary moments that quietly fill our lives: watching our parents age, losing grandparents, finding companionship in unlikely neighbors, mourning the bittersweet nostalgia of a friendship you’ve outgrown, wondering about children, yearning to put down roots, and discovering the bedrock of what makes your relationship. I don’t know what it means to be a foreigner in a new city, but that’s part of what made this book so special to me. It found a way to make someone else’s journey feel familiar, to find these pieces of your own life inside someone else’s. This book was a comforting melody, and I feel so lucky to have stumbled across it. by @twonreads

Book: The Shards Author: Brett Easton Ellis Genre: Fiction/Horror Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Review: WARNING ‼️ This is an extremely chaotic brain dump review I apologize in advanced for my ramblings!!! Y’all…what the devil was this twisty, strange, sun drenched, ’80s fever dream of a book?! I have SO many thoughts. So many theories. Brett, you little fuck. Cue I Know What You Did Last Summer because I KNOW WHAT YOU DID, BRET EASTON ELLIS!!! The way this book was written was such a fucking trip. I hated being inside Brett’s mind, but simultaneously craved it. His fractured sense of self, his grappling with his sexual identity, his obsession with Robert, the subconscious he names “the Writer,” his desperate obsession with acceptance it all felt so painfully intimate. Underneath it all are those strange, painful ocean waves of adolescence: the loneliness, confusion, obsession, self-loathing, and desperate need to be seen and understood. There was something about being trapped inside his mind that made the entire book feel feverish and claustrophobic, and I never quite knew what was real, what was imagined, what was memory, and what the hell was actually happening but I was completely consumed by it. I LOVED this book. It’s strange and sinister and feverish and deeply unsettling, but also so painfully intimate. What a bizarre, propulsive, utterly unhinged ride. Brett, I am going to be thinking about what you did for a long fucking time. by @twonreads

Last, Now, Next!!! I adore making these lil videos as a mood reader because you truly never know what my next move will be. Alas, one must always keep them on their toes!! Who said this? I haven’t a single clue. BUT these books are delicious and relentless in every sense. Please go read them! Especially The Shards. I simply must do a discussion video on this because the wheels in this little noggin of mine have been turning something fierce, and I am in desperate need of a proper dissection of this twisty novel. 🤪 by @twonreads

I have come to the unfortunate conclusion that I must say adieu to Ms. Carly Fortune, darling we can’t be allowing miscommunication tropes in our 30’s, it makes me ill!!! I’m a hater and I’m proud!!!🤪😜🤭🙃😝😛 I think it’s time to bring a little silly goofiness to my lil slice of bookstagram. I love a thoughtfully penned review as much as the next gal but sometimes I just need to rub my two brain cells together and have an unfiltered yap about some of these UNHINGED books you people keep recommending. Some of these were utterly insane and I needed to step into the narthex of a cathedral to get some holy water QUICK.
