Jim is looking forward to revisiting the Ludlow Fine Book Fair @ludlowbookbinders held at the racecourse on 17th and 18th October.

Ludlow Book Binders Ltd organise the event every couple of years as a celebration of fine craft printing and bookbinding.

Gathering letterpress printers, bookbinders, restorers, dealers and suppliers, all under one roof. Entry is free, free parking & café on site.
We hope to see you there!

Over the past few days Zoe has been making some pink and lilac wildflower seed papers as a trial for @alakartcreations. At 200lb, this paper is substantial enough to handle generous washes, and the gelatine tub-sizing keeps paint on the surface rather than letting it sink in. Becca is back for a couple of days. Covering for Zoe who is in Kent at the annual 1066 re-enactment.

She and Jim were making lightweight printing papers ready for the Ludlow Fine Book Fair next weekend. For a change they were working the vat in traditional tandem. One making,the other couching, using two moulds and one deckle.

Through the last two weeks of October, we will have a display at the ‘Water Water Exposition’ at the Cold Harbour Mill in Devon.
Visitors will be able to buy our paper, and on Saturday 24th Jim will be demonstrating hand paper making throughout the day.

Billy joined the team in July 2026. While he is a new face in the workshop, he is already a familiar friend; we have known Billy for five years from his time working right next door in the East Quay kitchen! Billy is a talented musician and guitarist with a passion for blues and country music. He also has a keen eye for photography, illustration, and comic book art. Production downtime can never be recovered, so routine maintenance of equipment is really important.

The machine in the picture is our small Hollander beater, which reduces rags to individual fibres.

East Quay is pleased to present Joy, their new open exhibition featuring works by selected artists from Somerset and further afield.
What does joy mean to you? What brings joy? How does it take shape in your body, your practice, your relationships, or your connection to place? Is joy fleeting or sustaining, quiet or expansive, deeply personal or shared? Where does joy live in everyday life, and how can it be cultivated, protected, shared, or re-imagined?
The artists in this exhibition respond to these questions through an eclectic range of personal, reflective practices. From treasured relationships, pets, and landscapes, to abstract paintings and sculptures - from colourful florals and nostalgic possessions to stories of resilience and power, these works invite us to consider how joy can be gentle yet transformative, tender yet resonant, and quietly essential to how we keep going through difficult times. This week Zoe and Billy have been making a trade order of UK native wildflower seed and petal papers for @fennerpaper. They sell this as ‘Botanica Floral Seed Paper’ each sheet contains a variety of wild flower seeds which will germinate once watered or planted. Great care has been taken in the hand papermaking process, using 100% cotton, without chemicals, and dried naturally (only by air). This process allows the seeds to remain viable gives them the best chance of germination.
