Teachers! Trying to decide which book(s) to read this week before heading back to work? Might I suggest THE DISTRICT, by @lisabush_writer? Not only is it a thrilling mystery novel set in Calgary, but it will also get you fired up for the school year in ways that might surprise you. It hits close to home on a lot of issues we’re dealing with in education in our province lately, and I found it to be a pleasantly cathartic reading experience. The official launch is next month on September 21 at @owlsnestbooks, and I’m thrilled to be a part of that evening’s conversation, but don’t wait until then to get your copy! taken in Owl's Nest Books by @tylerbperry

My first visit to Quebec City for Poetry In Voice National Finals and FutureVerse program was an adventure I will not forget! I had an amazing time with wonderful people and stunning poetry in an unbelievably gorgeous city. I was blown away by the talents of all the students who travelled from across Canada to celebrate poetry and culture at @lediamant_qc. Thank you, @pivlvp and all the amazing students for all the memories! taken in Quebec, Quebec by @tylerbperry

Today is the last day of the strike/lockout whirlwind, but the battle for public education in Alberta continues. As we return to school tomorrow, I am heartened by all the friendship, solidarity and support shown by my colleagues, students, family, friends, neighbours, and strangers who told me they liked my shirt or honked their support during the rally walks. The leadership and ongoing advocacy of @schill_dawg, @atalocal55, @letstalkalbertaeducation, so many others, and of course @nenshi and other members of the opposition, including @amandachapmanndp, @janis.irwin, @dianabatten_ , @pancholi_rakhi who stayed up until 2am this morning defending teachers, students, and parents. These past few weeks have been a mix of emotions, and I’m sure I will look back fondly on much of it, and despite our current circumstances, am looking forward to seeing students and colleagues tomorrow. I’m curious to see what the flip side will look like. Thanks, everyone. :) taken in Sue Higgins Dog Park by @tylerbperry

Awesome time walking with fellow teachers and supporters today in Calgary. A beautiful morning spent with some amazing people! Great to hear all the honking commuters, too. Thanks to @abteachers, @letstalkalbertaeducation, @schill_dawg and so many others for keeping the energy going into the third week of the strike. Shout out to @instaesau for the best sign, complete with hockey stick handle. 🏒 taken in Calgary, Alberta by @tylerbperry

There is poetry happening tonight at @shelflifebooks! If you’re free, and you don’t have work or school tomorrow for whatever reason, come join us! It would be awesome to see some teacher-poets or poet-teachers out there and anyone else who feels like listening to or sharing their poetry. It is an open mic, so the perfect time to share that poem you’ve had squirreled away for years! And if you want to wear a red shirt, that’s cool too! All ages, all genders, all people, (and pets, even) are fully welcome to this inclusive event!! Share and tag anyone you think might be interested! I will be hosting with @drdrjohn! Can’t wait! taken in Shelf Life Books by @tylerbperry

That was awesome! So many people standing together to support each other in rejecting the Smith government’s treatment of public education. Got to meet @evan.for.alberta, too! Strike begins tomorrow! taken in McDougall Centre by @tylerbperry
