With both Mother’s Day and @syracuseu commencement this weekend, I can’t help but think about the video I made back in 2006 when I recorded myself and my parents finding out I got into Cuse. As I’ve been missing my mom lately and doing a ton of reflecting, a friend of mine reminded me of this video as an example of how proud she was of me and what a beautiful thing that was. When she was excited about something… she was excited! The full video has been on YouTube for 16 years (when did I get so old?) but since nobody has time for that, here’s an abbreviated version. I apologize to everyone for whatever is growing on my chin. Shout out to flip phones, AOL and having a designated computer room in your house. If you can count how many times my mom says “Oh my God!” you win a prize. Hope you’re always this proud of me, mom. Miss you. by @tylergildin

Kindergarten, you were pure magic. ✨

Feels like yesterday we were putting you on the bus for your very first day of kindergarten, and now here you are graduating. 🎓

Watching you grow this year has been incredible. We are so proud of your kind heart, your confidence, your curiosity, and that beautiful smile that lights up every room.

I wish he’d hug me the way he hugged Matthew Schaefer 😂 They say never meet your heroes. They couldn’t be any more wrong. And very special to have him sign this Hockey Fights Cancer jersey in honor of my mom. Schaefer lost his mom last year to cancer as well. My mom would be gushing over this kid and how happy Brody was today. What an incredible player and person my son can worship on the Islanders for hopefully the next two decades. Guess it’s a good thing he didn’t make team 🇨🇦 or today wouldn’t have happened 😃. by @tylergildin

Throwback to 15 years ago when we made this spec commercial for the @doritos “Crash the Super Bowl” contest. No we didn’t win the million $ but IMO it still holds up pretty well! Wild to think the kid in this spot is probably in his twenties now. I wonder if for all of these years he automatically thinks of Doritos every time he goes the dentist. Special shout out to my uncle/dentist for being a ⭐️. Every time I watch a Super Bowl commercial I think, it could have been us! by @tylergildin

It will never not feel strange to be on a December vacation and not be celebrating your birthday with you, as it was your favorite thing to do. Not a December went by that we weren’t all on a beach together celebrating, being begged to take a family photo, and eventually returning to the room to find chocolate covered strawberries that were complimentary, even though you specifically told the concierge you were allergic to strawberries. 😂

Your grandkids took over the December birthday vacation tradition as we now celebrate their birthdays, the day before and the day after yours, ensuring they never forget your birthday as it will forever be the day in between making it “birthday week.” I’ll always be grateful for that. I have zero doubt you’d be going all out for your 65th, possibly throwing a second “Mommy Mitzvah” or some other over the top celebration you would insist upon (and deserve!)

The irony is not lost on me every time I argue with my kids to smile for a picture, knowing how difficult I made it for you every time you wanted to take one. Here are some of my favorite pictures of us all away together over the years. We all miss you and love you and will enjoy “just another mouthful” of dessert in your honor.
