My most recent finished mural for a local business set to open sometime in the near future.

This mural was hand painted with acrylic paint over the course of about ~2.5 months. The scale is around 31'h x 35'w (minus the stairs of course). The idea was brought to me by the creative owners who wanted a realistic looking 1950's themed drive-in scene, with multiple cars and people and a setting sun in the background to give a twilight glow to the scene. The main component of the wall was set to be a very large installed projector screen that will play movies and more while the business is open. I wanted to incorporate this screen as though it were a part of the painting. This project brought on so many enjoyable learning experiences from logistical planning, sketching on this scale, working efficiencies and more. Considering that i never painted any cars before this, it was a lot of fun to learn to paint something new.

One of the things i'm grateful for while doing this kind of work is getting to talk to people with ideas and bringing those ideas to life for them. It adds purpose that goes beyond my own selfish pursuits in the art world and it prioritizes someone else. You give them what they want with the best of your ability so that the art and someone else's purpose become infused and add to the greater experience for everyone else. Studio work is different. it can be similar, but it's not always for someone else at conception.

My Neighbor Totoro Bathroom Installation
An Art Project for @_laura_rock_ and her kids.
Hand-painted with acrylic paint in a powder room under a staircase.

Laura contacted me in December of 2024 with an idea to paint her powder room under her staircase in the theme of the movie My Neighbor Totoro - A famous Studio Ghibli film with incredible hand-painted scenes throughout. I agreed and when schedules finally aligned in August 2025, we began talking and planning about the scenes we like and where they will go. The project started out as a few scenes and then with our combined excitement, grew into every surface, including inside the cabinets and onto the door.

I can't thank Laura and her family enough for their consistent hospitality, great company and conversation while i sat in this tiny bathroom and painted every square inch of the walls. There is something really unique about sitting inside such a small room and turning it from blank white walls to an immersive colorful experience everywhere you look. The mental and physical toll it takes is pretty grueling if I'm being honest, but such is the case with any artistic process when you're lost deep in the middle of it all not sure when you'll find your way out. This part specifically really adds to how special it feels when i finish, and how grateful i feel to be able to do things like this. Painting in the style of studio Ghibli really taught me a lot and gave me a far greater appreciation of their work - i also learned that my natural painting style lended itself really well for the finished product to come out so similar.

This bathroom is hard to document. I tried my best! And i am planning on building a 3D virtual tour on my website! In due time... by @tylerpodomik

A series begins ๐Ÿฅณ

I think i find the lightweight process of these large pieces a little bit too enjoyable to ignore. Mostly one idea stays at the front of my mind - touch the piece as little as possible to create a feeling that's immersive and intangible. Move quickly and move on, learn and apply on the next one

A banner for @chipschopshoppgh

This barbershop wanted a banner painted above their mirrors that said "You're only funky as your last cut" - a clever lyric from one of my favorite @outkast songs Rosa Parks.

Chip's Chop Shop is run by Chip herself and Mr. Chip, a married couple who have graciously allowed me to artistically influence their space multiple times now. Along with great haircuts you can also experience art, a great dog named Toro, and all the interesting things that @nh412barber built himself around the shop.

Our relationship started when i needed a haircut on a day i was shopping around the idea of giving away a Snoop Dogg painting for free. Before going to a typical park or area in the city, i stopped here and unexpectedly this was the place that became its home after realizing the atmosphere and the people were a perfect place.

A few projects and commissions later and here we are.

Thank you to @kriscave.jpg for stopping in while i was working one night and snapping some photos of the process and getting some photos of me and the finished product. Always 10/10. ๐Ÿ™

Working with brands, businesses and companies that respect and are open to the freedom of artistic expression is what makes commission fun, enjoyable and successful for everyone. No chatGPT was used in writing this sentence.

Finished mural for @greenheartcoop in the New River Gorge.
Two days of painting rhododendrons and local birds. Huge thank you to Logan for giving me full artistic freedom, and for the opportunity to paint 3 different murals in this location, this being the 3rd. It's been special to paint here. I've learned so much about myself on these 3 projects and i think it has a lot do with timing.

Ya know what's funny. When i started traveling here to climb in 2020, i was on a path toward getting my MFA in ceramics at Southern Illinois. Not a lot of people know that I accepted the offer and then backed out. I spent 3 years working with clay and rarely painting. But the choice felt wrong and everything was colliding. Clay quickly became a long lost friend and my relationship to it changed. The only things i began to care about were climbing and painting. I took a mural opportunity in 2021 and never looked back. Well maybe i looked back a few times ๐Ÿ˜….

I was 26 when this all changed and now I'm 32. I'm still an idiot just as i was then, but I'm a much more consistent, efficient, disciplined and resourceful idiot. So many lessons. And i don't lose my keys as often now.

Of course the New River gorge is special. That's obvious to anyone who travels there and understands that place. But the meaning for me is evolving. Through these murals it's not just about climbing there. I finally have out of state mural work which has always been a career goal of mine - here i am, painting in a place that pulled me to it for a completely different reason. It's just cool how life can steer you in different directions based on choices. I used to feel guilty at times about not going to get my MFA. That finally stopped a few years ago. When i paint things like this, in a place i love for an entirely different reason, i get confident that I'm exactly where i need to be. It's just a stepping stone in the life long path of art. But it's a step that felt like needed to be reflected on and shared. And I love paint.

Rarely do i make a post on here that's just an image of me without any art, but im almost 32 and an update feels justified with how cool of a camera these were taken on. by @tylerpodomik
