Stakeholder intent and excitement matches public demand for more diverse spaces to swim.

Performative politics and media noise.

This project means a great deal to people of this region. It has huge support to figure a way to get it built, so that it can impact lives in communities, and become a beacon for well being and tourism.

It becomes a political football. Kicked about without anyone in authority engaging in the rigour of the detail.

It's picked up by the media who do the same, knowing that provocative headlines drive clicks and sell advertising.

All of which doesn't help the actual job of getting it built. Often, it's a distraction, worse it is degenerative.

There is a large amount of good work happening. Positive conversations between a coalition of the willing.

There is no last chance or ultimatum. A preposterous articulation of the current status.

Skeptics and disruptors remain of course.

But we rise above them, as we have done for over a decade, focused on the delivery, powered by the people.

Looking forward to catching up with @chrisromerlee as @swimmable_cities heads North this coming week.

His Sea Pools book is an incredible collection of distinct swimming sites across the world. The stories of their creation are as impressive as the iconic places themselves.

Brilliant research and a fascinating read.

And a call to arms to create more spaces to swim outdoors. by @tynemouthoutdoorpool

An 11 year old prophetic concept!

This @lego model, created in 2015 by the emerging talent of @brickthis has proven to contain so much meaning.

Since 2015 @lego has gone up in price (hasn't everything)! When we looked at concepts and pricing for this construction, we were looking at around £10m. Now, with everything we know, and inflation, a likely build price is over £20m, to ensure we build once and build a sustainable site.

The design wouldn't be a million miles away from this! 3 story construction into the bank, access from the top which allows for deliveries and waste. Concrete platform raised, and the building comfortably above the waterline.

Layout of the inside of the building would contain a gym, cafe, retail, restaurant, flexible space for meetings / parties / classes. Plus we'd add a sauna / steam / cold plunge aligned to modern leisure trends and demands.

25m pool (though we also have designs for a 50m pool) and no final decision has been made. That would be open to consultation.

We love the model (thanks @brickthis), and it has helped us immensely over the last decade be able to bring the details of the vision, and ambition to life.

Happy to bring it on the road to schools, community groups, retail, exhibitions, weddings, funerals, birthday parties etc! DM us and lets see what's possible.

Putting together the pieces of a complex 3D puzzle.

Our beautiful @lego model built by the brilliant @brickthis sometimes gives us a great analogy about the work we're continuing to do to bring this back to life.

One piece at a time.

Slowly coming together.

What are we working on at the moment?
- Keeping this social media channel active / managing media enquiries
- Fulfilling the Heritage 2026 merch orders, alongside building another partnership (watch this space)
- Exploring the technical build details, with special focus on the concrete at the Longsands site
- Strategic discussions with regional tourism bodies
- Updating the business plan aligned to 2026 data from other pools
- Building a funding strategy
- Further analysis of the data from the 2023 planning application (85,000 words)
- Working with other lidos to support their operations and investment plans

Pieces of the puzzle.

All with zero public funding.
