Even if you haven’t personally experienced infertility, you most likely know someone who has.

Ashleigh Marie Brown (@typeamb) wants to help women feel less alone and access information that can help them navigate that experience.

To do this, she created Claire Fertility (@clairefertility), an integrated wellness platform that’s helping to destigmatize reproductive challenges šŸ’•ā

As someone who has experienced infertility, I can attest to the importance of this work and how badly needed it is!

In addition to discussing her work in the fertility space, Ashleigh also shares shares some great advice about becoming a tech founder.

There's so much goodness here, you won’t want to miss this episode! ✨

I will never understand why God makes the lives of the very best people so short. But I’ve learned that it’s often so, and was rarely more true than when my older brother, Brandon Seth, died last August.

Brandon was a miracle of a man—warm, caring, empathic, hilarious. He loved generously and unflinchingly. He was creative and intelligent. He was beautiful in every way.

Brandon was a little over a decade older than me and we didn’t grow up together. He was born when my father was still in college and by the time I came along we were growing up on opposite coasts. But the times we spent together have always been impossibly precious to me and are now even moreso. I never imagined we wouldn’t grow old together, and the layers of regret and sadness for the stretches of time we went without each other over the years are thick.

I’m so glad he’s no longer suffering, but I can’t say it feels right that he’s gone. I continue to cycle through the stages of grief, in no particular order at this point, comforted and encouraged mostly by the beautiful people he gifted to my life —siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, cousins—people who loved him fiercely and people I’m not related to by blood, but are my family nonetheless. I hope and pray I’ve offered them similar comfort in our shared grief.

I find peace knowing that my mother, who adored Brandon as he did her, has taken him under her wing. They are the two best people I’ve ever known, and I picture them together now. I was raised an only child (although I’m thankful that this changed much later in life) but as a kid I felt so special knowing that even if he was 3,000 miles away and in a different season of life, I had a brother that loved me as I did him.

Happy 1st Heavenly Birthday to my big brother, who helps me cause good trouble, introduced me to Outkast, reminded me to be kind and compassionate no matter what, and always made me know he loved me. The world is a far less beautiful place without him in it.

I love you, Brandon, and always will. #HBD šŸ•ŠļøšŸŽ‚ by @typeamb

Allow me to be ever so slightly basic and CELEBRATE my startup’s featured billboard in Times Square! Courtesy of our banking partner @brexhq . The middle-schooler in me is *squealing*—and the grown ass woman is loving the website trafficšŸ’…šŸ½

Since it’s hard to see clearly from the vids, it reads: ā€œCLAIRE is a digital health startup reimagining the way pre-prenatal women conceive. We’ve got their back.ā€

Even in 2022, it doesn’t get much cooler than Times Square for me šŸ„°šŸ˜Ž but I’m still faith-FILLED + confident the best is truly yet to come✨ #TYG #WHDI #IYKYK #CLAIRE #wemakemoms

I have an awkward relationship with this holiday - I just got to the place a few yrs ago where it didn’t feel like being stabbed in the heart. I’m able to be joyful, social, and wholeheartedly wish my people HMD, and I’m beyond grateful for the peace that enables that.

These photos fill my heart with indescribable joy—but believe it or not, I just received and viewed them (inside a whole Christmas photo album my mother made in 1985) for the very first time a couple of months ago.

And let me be honest: they initially sent me into a deep rage. I couldn’t believe that 29 yrs after my mom died, after the choking grief I navigated, that I hadn’t been given these photos before now. It seems small but it brought up a ton of shit I thought I’d long released around how unseen, misunderstood, and unsupported I was for decades. How people who could have been comfort + safe places opted instead to project their own bullshit onto me and rely on my innate emotional maturity although I was a child and they were adults.

I was too empathic to be able to pinpoint what felt wrong about this as a kid.

BUT I know I’m really healed because I’m able to forgive the ineptitude and look past the hurt to the BEAUTY of holding these in my hands—pictures that, more than any other I’m in possession of, show the woman who birthed me as I remember her.

I was so close to my mom. She was my best friend, biggest fan, fiercest protector. I’ve never felt as safe and seen as I felt when she was with me. That first picture is how I viscerally remember our relationship, the way she’s smiling at me and I’m smiling at her. This was us. The way she loved any excuse to throw a party; the way she wore red lipstick and a fresh roller set and would let me brush her hair at night before she pinned her curls up. What a blessing to have candid visual reminders to match the ones on my heart.

I’ve always known I will one day be a mom myself. When I saw these pictures I could really see it for the first time, and it made me so excited for my own journey. I’m truly blessed to have been her daughter, and I pray my babies feel the same.

Have posted this for my mom’s birthday the past few years. It’s become my favorite (along w this photo, if you know me), because it captures who she really was—not just my mother but a woman I never really got to know, which is the greatest sadness of my life. And so it’s become the best way to honor her + her 29th heavenly✨ birthday today:

Mother,
During those early, dearest days
I did not dream you had a larger life which included me,
For I had a life
Which was only you. -Maya Angelou taken in MontrƩal, QuƩbec by @typeamb

I’ve lived here nearly my entire adult life. Crossing state lines feels like a betrayal. Or an unwanted divorce.

I love this place. It raised me. All my massive failures and all my sweet victories have been here. All my great loves and all my regrettable affairs have started here. California holds the most precious parts of my story. She birthed the most authentic version of my life. I moved here young, bold, broken. I’m leaving mature, wise, and healed.

I could never repay the debt of gratitude I owe this place for all it’s given me, and I thank the Lord for making me foolish enough to move here on a whim, for a job that had barely begun before it abruptly ended. If anyone had told me all I would go through over these years, I might have chosen a different path. But that person would likely never be able to communicate the joy I’d experience here as well, and what it would mean to my existence.

California is magic, top to bottom. Just like you can find snow and 80-degree beach days on the same day, so can you live multiple existences in this mythical place. You can be many people at once. That, for me, was a vibe.

My favorite poem of all time is ā€œThe Road Not Takenā€. It twists my heart to read the line ā€œand, knowing how way leads onto to way...ā€œ, because it plays on the innate saudade over the fact that we get one life, one chance.

The day I left Virginia for college, my father prayed over me, then said ā€œI wish I could keep you with me forever. But I have known since you were born that you are not a nest bird. You were always going to fly.ā€

Yes. I am a gypsy, a bohemian. I was ashamed of this as a young person from a background that didn’t hold space for wild women and free spirits. I accept myself, now. Being locked into a singular path is claustrophobic to my soul.

But, there comes a time when we must acknowledge the fleeting nature of life. And the importance of making commitments you keep.

You can only be one place at a time.

And so, I am leaving something deeply cherished. But I trust God. He has opened a door and is leading me to something magnificent. I am sad, but I am excited. I am heartbroken, but I am grateful. taken in Malibu, California by @typeamb
