The Typewriter Revival Is Real.

I just read an inspiring piece in the @nytimes about the unexpected comeback of typewriters, and this part really stuck with me.

The article reads:
What neither man could have known was that they had been standing at the edge of the typewriter’s unlikely resurrection. The revival began quietly in temples of analog nostalgia — think Brooklyn coffee shops and Portland boutique hotels. @tomhanks became an unlikely patron saint, writing a book about typewriters, collecting hundreds of them. Then came 2020. Everyone stuck at home, screens everywhere, Zoom fatigue setting in. People craved something tangible. Typewriter sales exploded.

“The kids get it,” Lundy says. “They’re not trying to be nostalgic for something they never experienced. They’re trying to escape what they experience every day.

End Quote:

If you’ve been feeling burned out by computer screens or looking for a way to reconnect with your creative dreams, maybe this is your sign to slow down and get a typewriter!

Now Bremerton Typewriter Company is officially on my must-visit list.

This may not be a John Hughes movie, but it feels like stepping onto one of his sets. This is one of the typewriters he used to bring his stories to life, the rest is history.

Meet the L.C. Smith No. 8.

If you’ve ever used a typewriter from the 1920s or 30s, you know they usually require a bit of muscle. Built by L.C. Smith & Bros this machine was engineered with ball-bearings. While other typewriters of the era relied on simple friction joints, the No. 8 used precision ball bearings for typing.

Eventually L.C. Smith & Bros was renamed Smith-Corona. @smithcoronalabels
