Introducing DAPA’s officer supporting outreach, Aubrey! Aubrey (she/her) is pursuing a BFA in Painting with an Art History minor. For DAPA this year, she is most excited about opening up accessible and affordable opportunities for everyone to be creative and express themselves. She is also looking forward to making new art friends and memories in her last semester before graduating! Aubrey describes her artwork as, “a pursuit to a death of complicity and a love letter to creative influences.” She believes that creating is an act of resistance and antonym to fascism, as community and creation goes hand in hand. Her favorite song to listen to in the studio is St. Denis or Bangkok, from a Hotel Balcony by No-No Boy Check out her artwork in this post, and be sure to chat with her anytime you want to visit her free candy bowl or Little Free Art Library in her studio. by @ua_dapa

Join us for an Artist Talk with Taylor Miller, in part one of our Plein Air workshop! The talk will be Tuesday October 13th at 6:15 PM in SDCR on the fourth floor, seminar room 412. Taylor will share how they use plein air in their art practice and provide tips for approaching plein air such as preparing a kit, setting up a palette, and choosing a composition! Taylor Miller is a queer figure artist from Kansas City working with nature iconography. They received their BA in painting from the University of Kansas in 2020 and are currently pursuing an MFA at the University of Arkansas. Taylor has exhibited at the Spencer Museum, Salina Art Center, Bunker Center for the Arts, and the San Gallo Campus in Florence, Italy. Check out Taylor's artist statement below: "My experiences color my perception of the world. Paintings are visual manifestations of that reality. They function as a looking glass for the viewer to glimpse private sentiment through the use of abstracted biological symbols. My creative process is a way of distilling and clarifying emotion. Plein air painting is an important part of my process. I conduct studies of the landscape and ecosystem which become a catalog of iconography in the studio. Each of these paintings is a journal entry in my life. In this way, each painting functions as a self-portrait regardless of its subject matter. I rapidly work and rework the surface of my canvases in the studio. It becomes a search, a push and pull of forms and marks. Initially it is an indiscernible cacophony of marks, just like my inner turmoil. Slowly, recognizable forms come into focus, just as emotions do. The labor of finding and building up those forms is important to achieving closure." Check out some of their works in the next slides and learn more about their work on their website at: https://taylormiller.net or instagram @taylor.miller.art The second part of the workshop will be a hands-on event where you get to try plein air yourself with guided support and free materials. See details at the link in our bio! Hope to see you at both events! by @ua_dapa
