Inclusion always wins! At @univofalabama, our students have been included in the fabric and life of the university for many year. From rigorous academic courses across campus, independent living instruction, meaningful employment, and social inclusion, our students earn a UA education that’s tailored to them. To us, the experience comes in the coveted UA education.

Speaking of experiences, our students do it all! Thanks to our friends at @uasga, our #Tier3 students have blocked/reserved seating like other campus organizations such as fraternities, sororities, the Honors College, the Law School, and others. Our students invite friends, mentors, and others to join them to see the Tide roll!

SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT: please join us in congratulating our co-founder and Executive Director, Dr. Kagendo Mutua, for being named the 2026 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award winner by The University of Alabama! Her distinguished career as a faculty member and scholar in special education is remarkable; her research is central to our field, she’s been awarded nearly $20 million in external funding, and co-founded our program, which is a leading, accredited, and multi-tiered transition program for students with ID. She has tirelessly advocated for initiatives for both inclusive higher education and for professionals serving youth with significant disabilities. Her research agenda and grant leadership have built sustainable pathways for inclusion and have trained hundreds of educators, rehabilitation counselors and advocates who now serve communities nationwide. We recently hosted our annual #MockInterviewFair for our #Tier1 and #Tier3 students! Campus partners and external partners representing banking, financial advising, education, human resources, health care, pest control, and more joined us for practice rounds of interviewing. We had great conversation with Grace and loved going across state lines to support, advocate, and empower alongside others who support inclusion of people with disabilities…especially during Down Syndrome Awareness Month! Independence. Freedom. Responsibility. Homeownership.

These are just a few things our students learn about as CrossingPoints students. In fact, we don't just teach it...it's demonstrated. 67% of CrossingPoints students live outside the family home upon graduation.

#Tier1 and #Tier3 graduate Chase knows all about achieving the goal of becoming a homeowner. He hasn't lived in his family's home since he graduated, but he took the next step in adulthood by purchasing a place of his own. Chase found his keys to success, and his keys to the front door.
