This week’s UARK Drawing Instagram takeover highlights Erin Keaton, a 3rd year MFA Candidate:

“Erin Keaton, b. 1983 (she or they). I’m a multidisciplinary artist and educator from Millbury, OH. Human effort and energy transfer guide my production of intuitive drawings and mark-making, as well as my replicant drawings of personal ephemera. As I move towards thesis in April ‘27, my current studio focus is on using clay, metals, and papermaking to create the strata upon which I draw.

I’m teaching Observational Drawing for Non-Majors this Fall and will be teaching a M/W 11-1:45 section again in Spring ‘27! (tell your buds). I’ve also developed trauma-informed arts programming in juvenile carceral institutions and youth treatment centers in California, Ohio, and Arkansas. I continue to build trauma-informed arts programming for incarcerated, previously incarcerated, and underrepresented youth under the pedagogy of prison abolitionism.

One day you will be able to find me at www.erinkeaton.work but for now you can find my original t-shirt designs at www.erinkeaton.bigcartel.com, my writing at erinkeaton.substack.com, and some of my art lives here: @erin_keaton on Instagram.

Email me at brihkeaton *at* gmail *dot* com
You can see my thesis exhibition on April 3, 2027, at The Creamery in Rogers, AR! ☺︎”

Today we are highlighting our 3rd year MFA Drawing candidate, Bolu Ezra Ikuemonisan!

Bolu Ezra Ikuemonisan, an interdisciplinary artist, currently investigates the reality of navigating new or unfamiliar spaces and how it shifts perception and meaning, surfacing the friction between what was and what is. This summer, Bolu traveled to Venice for the 61st Venice Biennale, an experience that continues to shape his current studio explorations. Bolu’s artwork is currently being featured in Our Art, Our Region, Our Time at Alexander Gallery in Fayetteville from September 25th to December 20th.

Help UARK Drawing welcome the incoming 1st Year Drawing MFA Cohort!

Meet Madhubanti Biswas (Raya)! Originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Raya completed her BFA at the University of Dhaka and her MFA at IKSV University in India.

“My work is deeply connected to my journey and the memories I have gathered along the way. It helps me understand where I come from, where I am now, and what I carry within me. The foundation of my work is drawing, where I use lines to express myself. I use charcoal, gouache and ink because of their simplicity and capacity to evoke spontaneity and motion. I love to work with mixed media as well. Over the past year, I’ve become really interested in working on panoramic surfaces and seeing how viewers engage with them.” - Madhubanti Biswas (Raya)

Meet Rose Marjanneke Williamson! Originally based in Sarasota, FL, Rose earned her BFA In Fine Arts trom Ringling College of Art and Design in 2024. Working as both the artist and conservator, their studio functions as an archive in constant flux. Chasing after fragments of time, Rose attempts to reconstruct memory despite its constant state of erosion and reorganization. They are most interested in moments when the self can be preserved and lost. Seeking processes and techniques that simultaneously mend and inflict damage, destruction becomes a prerequisite for transformation as the work becomes an attempt at restoration.

✨ Made at SOA | Meet Molly Martin ✨

MFA Studio Art candidate Molly Martin currently has work featured in two regional group exhibitions: To M(end) at Midnight Gallery in Bentonville, AR (p.s. the show ends this weekend!), and Unboxed: Rethinking the Grid at Missouri State’s Brick City Gallery in Springfield, MO (through October 3).

As an interdisciplinary artist, here's what Molly has to say about her process which has taken shape at the School of Art:

"Everything in the studio carries potential. I move between drawing, painting, and sculpture, exploring repetition, movement, and transformation through cycles of cutting, stitching, layering, and recombining. My works evolve in conversation with one another. Marks reappear from piece to piece and shapes shift across mediums and materials, forming a kind of ecosystem.

I draw on a physical vocabulary shaped by gymnastics and outdoor play, where twisting, balancing, bouncing, and looping become ways of thinking about rhythm and form. These embodied memories surface in a line spiral, a painting balanced on the edge of its support, or a sculpture suspended mid-motion.

Through this process I search for rhythm and resonance, a sense of liveliness that hovers just before it can be named."

At the School of Art, students like Molly gain real-world opportunities to showcase their work regionally and nationally, while being supported by a place that drives experimentation, collaboration, and professional growth.

We're proud to be fostering this kind of education, making the University of Arkansas, and the state, a place where artists launch their careers.
