I have been slowly working on an edition of lithograph prints of St. Spyridon the Wonderworker over the last few months. Each icon was hand printed 1 color at a time using a cast iron Fuchs & Lang litho press. Each halo was painted with metallic gold acrylic. I then laminated each icon to a specially prepared and sealed pinewood icon board and finished with a durable acrylic gloss topcoat. The key layer was drawn by hand. This limited-edition icon print is available for purchase on my Etsy store in 2 versions. See link in bio.

“Our father among the saints Spyridon of Trimythous the Wonderworker was born in Cyrpus in 270 AD. He was a peasant farmer and shepherd and later became bishop of Trimythous. In 325 AD, he was present at the First Ecumenical Council of Nicea where he astonished many with his simple explanations of the Orthodox Faith.
Though not well-educated, he surprised everyone at the Council of Nicea by converting a famous philosopher to Orthodoxy from Arianism. He explained the unity and diversity of the Trinity by holding up a brick, then commonly thought to be a combination of the elements fire, earth and water; as he spoke, fire blazed from the top of the brick while water gushed out underneath, with the earth remaining in his hand.

Through simplicity and deep devotion to God, he worked miracles throughout his life and became known as a great wonder-worker, calling forth rain in the midst of drought, casting out demons with a single word, healing the sick and even raising people from the dead, in addition to having the gift of prescience.”    -spyridoncathedral.org

“Although the Good God gives us abundant blessings, acts always for our own good and has made everything to be of service to us and to be sacrificed for us, from plants to animals and birds, whether big or small, and even though God Himself sacrificed His life to redeem man, many of us remain indifferent and wound Him with our great ingratitude and insensitivity. And, all of this even though He has given us our conscience as an inheritance together with all His other blessings.”

“The Kingfish,” Huey P. Long, was a wild and controversial populist politician from Louisiana whose complicated legacy still colors so much of the state’s capital - my hometown of Baton Rouge. Huey’s corrupt political machine seized power by appealing to poor working people and held onto it with violence and intimidation. He planned to run against FDR in 1936 (even wrote a book called ‘My First Days in the White House’), but was assassinated in the extravagant state capitol building he had erected - the tallest in the U.S - in 1935. He had just gerrymandered the district of a judge who opposed him, and the judge’s son-in-law, Carl Weiss, shot him point blank in the stomach with a .32 caliber pistol. Huey Long’s last words were “God, don’t let me die. I have so much to do.”

On field trips as a kid, we’d be led down the grand marble hallway where The Kingfish was shot. I remember lining up to put my finger in the tiny bullet hole in the marble.

I had a ton of fun making this stone lithograph last summer. I must’ve counteretched the stone 5 times, and experimented with spray paint and cheesecloth masks to produce texture. taken in School of Art + Design at Ohio University by @ubermill
