Indigo that never dyes the same way twice. Turmeric yellow. Sappan red. White gesso, clarity amid the bustle of ceremony. The gray-violet sky above the city skyline. Remnants of canang offerings. Pastel palettes passed down from a mother and grandmother.

In Bali, color lives in temple roofs, in cloth, masks, and dance, moving between sekala and niskala, the seen and the unseen. Growing from “Warna Bali” by Gurat Institute and curated by Hendro Wiyanto, Surat-Surat kepada Warna invites artists to write a letter to color.

Ubud Art Ground 2026 opens with a performance by Nyoman Erawan, presenting ESKATOLOGI MATRA (Siklus Dimensional).

Exploring cycles of birth, life, and death, the work reflects on pralaya not simply as destruction, but as a process of transformation and new beginnings.

ESKATOLOGI MATRA also takes form as an outdoor installation, presented as part of the UAG 2026 exhibition.

Mahendra Yasa reflects on Warna Bali through its materials, histories, and transformations, from the colours of Kamasan to the character of aerosol paint. Moving beyond the weight of tradition and social critique, he speaks about finding freedom in the material itself, and in simply painting because he enjoys it.
