Big news! 🎉 Our Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science has officially received CAAHEP CoAES accreditation!

This is a major milestone that confirms the quality, rigor, and real-world relevance of our program. Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), in collaboration with the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES), ensures that our curriculum meets the highest national standards for preparing students for careers in the health, fitness, and exercise industry.

As the exercise science profession grows in scope and influence, accredited programs are becoming essential to meet industry demands and uphold professional standards. The CoAES plays a vital role in this by establishing guidelines that ensure academic programs truly equip students for success—whether pursuing certification, employment, or graduate study.

🤔 Why does accreditation matter?

✔️ Validates program quality and accountability
✔️ Aligns education with industry standards
✔️ Enhances student credibility in a competitive job market
✔️ Supports the continued growth and professionalism of the field

This comes in addition to our status as an NSCA ERP, another mark of our commitment to student success in exercise science, strength & conditioning, and beyond. 💪

This week, students in Dr. Scheadler’s EXSC 4060: Adapting Exercise for Special Populations course had the opportunity to visit the Motion Analysis Lab at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center!

Students got a firsthand look at how motion analysis technology is used to assess movement and support clinical care for individuals with diverse needs.

🫀Learning beyond the classroom! 🩵

Today, our Exercise Science students visited The Christ Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Center to get an inside look at the field of cardiac rehabilitation.

From learning about inpatient and outpatient cardiac rehab to connecting with exercise physiologist professionals in the field, our students gained valuable insight into what it’s like to work in this specialized area of healthcare.

A big thank you to @thechristhospital Cardiac Rehabilitation team and our very own UC EXSC alumni, Audra for welcoming our students and sharing your expertise! 👏 taken in The Christ Hospital by @uc_exsci

📸 Scenes from the first of many hands-on CPR, AED and first aid certification skills sessions this fall!

Exercise Science students complete the training as part of EXSC 1007C: Emergency Response & Planning, but did you know non-majors can take HFL 1051: First Aid, CPR, AED training as well to get certified?

Being prepared to recognize and respond to an emergency is an essential and potentially lifesaving skill. Students gain hands-on experience recognizing and responding to cardiac and other medical emergencies, performing high-quality CPR, properly using an AED, and providing basic first aid.

Emergencies can happen anywhere…from fitness facilities and athletic settings to clinics and community spaces…and being prepared to respond quickly and confidently can make a critical difference! ❤️ taken in University of Cincinnati by @uc_exsci

🎓Alumni Spotlight: Katherine Croce ’26

Meet Katherine, a 2026 graduate with her B.S. in Exercise Science, a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and owner of Katherine Croce Fitness in Lexington, KY! She has built a career combining personal training, group fitness, exercise programming, and entrepreneurship. Katherine trains clients in person and online, helps operate a private training facility, coaches cycling and strength classes at RIDETRIBE Fritz Farm, and develops fitness content and training programs.

Read below about her experience at UC and advice for current students!

“While at UC, I taught cycling classes at the Campus Recreation Center, gained experience in athletic training and administration through my internships, and contributed to research involving exercise testing. My favorite part of my career is taking the science I learned at UC and making it practical. Whether I’m training 1:1, coaching a lifting class of 16, cycling class of 35, or creating an online program, I want people to understand the “why” behind their training and feel confident doing it.

I also love putting myself in different athletic environments! From running races and marathons to joining different sports clubs (even when I’m not very good!), experiencing them firsthand helps me understand their unique demands and better relate to the people I train.

My biggest advice: get involved and don’t be afraid to ask questions! Take internships, participate in research, shadow professionals, and try new things. Your classes give you the science, but hands-on experience helps you discover what areas you thrive in, what you enjoy, and even what might not be the right fit for you!”

Her take-home message?

“Exercise Science doesn’t have to lead to one specific career. I’ve been able to combine science, personal training, group fitness, content creation, programming, and entrepreneurship into a career that I’m continuing to learn from and build every day!”

Thank you to Katherine for sharing her story and showing the many ways an Exercise Science degree can translate into a meaningful and dynamic career. We’re proud to see our Bearcats making an impact in the field! taken in University of Cincinnati by @uc_exsci
