Our Path Forward: A Community Circle for Undocumented Asian and Pacific Islander Students and their Allies

Tuesday, May 26, 5PM-6PM

This event will be delivered on Zoom. A link to the Zoom room will be sent to those who RSVPed. Please RSVP here:https://tinyurl.com/uja4hwjm

We invite undocumented Asian and Pacific Islander students and their allies—including friends, staff, and faculty members—to join our community circle. This event aims to create a safe space in which students who are impacted by changing immigration policies can share their experiences, concerns, and questions. The community circle will also provide participants with resources and mentorship to better navigate their lives on campus and beyond, while also forging support and allyship during this challenging time.

To begin the conversation, Ga Young Chung, an assistant professor in the Department of Asian American studies, will facilitate a discussion between Daniela D. Telles, Director of the Undocumented Student Resource Center, and Kezia Aurin, a community advocate and a writer for Immigrant Rising, on current immigration policy changes and their impacts on Asian and Pacific Islander communities. Then we will open the floor to engage with participants on their stories, suggestions, concerns, and questions. The event will take place on Zoom, and participants are welcome to leave their cameras off and use a pseudonym if they prefer.

Please contact Dr. Ga Young Chung gachung@ucdavis.edu if you have any questions. by @ucdasa

Please join Asian American Studies for “Population Crisis and The Reproductive Archive”, a guest lecture by Josen Diaz!

📆 Tuesday, May 12th, 10am-12pm, Hart Hall 3201

This talk focuses on the development of a population science in the decade that preceded the Ferdinand Marcos regime in the Philippines and throughout the Marcos dictatorship. The regime’s management of reproductive health, in particular, illustrates the construction of new technologies of measurement and containment. Examinations of “family planning” archives highlight both family planning as the management of the Philippines labor-surplus economy and the different ways that family planning workers struggled against these impositions. This talk draws from Diaz’s current book project, which argues that Filipina labor presents a genealogy of colonial crisis that charts both the wider social landscapes that catalyze crisis and unravels the relations that can help us find the ways out. by @ucdasa
