🚨UC’s Paige Sheppard has qualified for the final of the women’s 800-meter run at the U.S. Championships!🚨
🙌Congrats, Paige!!! That’s how you level up!!🙌

Paige Sheppard qualified for final of the women’s 800-meter run at the U.S Track and Field Championships, which begin on Friday night at Icahn Stadium in New York.

The 16 year-old Sheppard, a rising senior at Union Catholic, more than held her own vs. the pros by finishing fifth in the first heat of the women’s 800-meter run in 2:00.99 to advance to Sunday’s 9-runner final on time.

The top 2 finishers in each heat, plus the next three fastest runners in the 3 heats combined qualified for the final. Sheppard’s 2:00.99 was the third fastest time among runners who didn’t finish in the top 2.

Sheppard, who won the 800 at the U.S. Under-20 Championships earlier this month and narrowly missed making the U.S. World Indoor Team this past March, will run in the final on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. by @uctrack

A gutsy last 100m for Paige Sheppard earns her a spot in the final.

Sheppard moves from seventh to fifth in the last straight of the 800m trials, coming across the line in 2:00.99 in the first heat, a time that would hold up as the final time qualifier through the consecutive two heats! taken in Icahn Stadium by @uctrack

🙌🔥Big shoutout to UC’s Abbey Robisky, Sydney Chadwick, Abriyah Thompson and Paige Sheppard, who teamed up to break the NJ record in the girls’ 4x400 relay by running 3:35.81 to place third on Sunday at the New Balance National Championships in Philadelphia!🙌🔥

The Union Catholic girls put an exclamation point on a historic showing by New Jersey at the New Balance National Championships by breaking the state record in the 4x400-meter relay when the Vikings placed third on Sunday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

UC stopped the clock at 3:35.81 to take down the NJ record of 3:35.90 that Union Catholic ran to finish first at the 2015 New Balance Nationals at North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C. That UC was anchored by then sophomore Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone.

The record-shattering lineup for UC on Sunday consisted of freshman Abbey Robisky, who led off with a 54.9, junior Sydney Chadwick (53.3), junior Abriyah Thompson (54.33) and then junior Paige Sheppard finished it off my ripping a 52.45 anchor!!!

NJ put three teams in the top six in the 4x400.

Winslow was fourth in 3:43.70, and Pennsauken, without Sianni Wynn on the squad, still placed sixth in 3:48.20.

We have to dig a little into what Sheppard did!

The 52.45 by Sheppard was impressive enough, but when you consider that she was across the country on Friday night winning the 800 at the USATF U-20 Championships at Hayward Field in Oregon, it nakes what she Sunday even more remarkab;le!!!

UC’s performance in the 4x00 was the 5th NJ record that went down at the 2 national championships this weekend.

At the NB Nationals, in addition to the 4x400, Pennsauken won the girls’ 4x200 in a NJ record 1:35.21, Bergen Catholic won the boys’ 4x200 in a NJ record 1:23.50, and Jasmine Jackson of Winslow won the girls’; 100 hurdles in a NJ record 13.04. Out at the Nike Nationals in Oregon, Leah Starkey of Ocean Township won the girls’ 2-mile in a NJ record 9:46.57. by @uctrack

Working all year for these moments 🥇🇺🇸

Even with an undefeated record and all the success Paige Sheppard has had all season long, the Union Catholic NJ junior knew it wasn’t going to be easy to make the World U20 team and needed all the belief in herself that she could get it done.

Sheppard wound up winning the USATF U20 800m title in 2:01.76, earning her spot on the team.

🚨Paige Sheppard Alert!!!!🚨

🔥Paige Sheppard continued her historic season by dominating the women’s 800-meter run at the USATF Under-20 Championships on Friday at Hayward Field in Oregon.🔥

The legendary junior at Union Catholic ran from the front and dared someone to try and catch her. Nobody could as the Stanford-bound Sheppard executed her race plan to perfection, leveling up once again to win the 2-lap race in 2:01.76 to lock up a spot on the U.S. team that will compete at the World Under-20 Championships, scheduled for Aug. 5-9 at Hayward Field.

In a race featuring several college freshmen, Sheppard took the lead at the bell as she hit 400 in 59.26, and then she kept hammering her way around the oval before pulling away down the homestretch to finish nearly a second ahead of senior Ellie Barada of Bloomington South in Indiana, who who ran a big PR of 2:02.72 to place second and secure the second and final berth on the U.S. Team.

Sheppard has been the class of the country all season in the 800, highlighted by her U.S. No. 1 2:00.65 at the Brooks PR Invitational earlier this month, which is No. 7 in U.S. history. And Sheppard has shown she’s capable of winning in many different ways. She has showcased a huge closing kick to rally to win some big races, she’s run some negative splits to win, and lately she’s been more aggressive early and taking control of races and pushing the pace.

The bottom line is that Sheppard, who also smashed the NJ record in the 1,600 this season with a 4:28.77, is having a season for the ages.

What are Sheppard’s chances of winning the 800 at the U-20 World Championships?

She’s currently ranked No. 5 in the world in the U-20 Division, but with the way Sheppard is racing combined with her sheer talent, fitness level, confidence, training, and her passion and drive, she’s more than capable of going sub 2:00 and pulling off the win!!

🙌I wouldn’t bet against her!!!🙌 by @uctrack
