What a night to remember 💙

#UDubuque held an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on October 7 to celebrate the completion of extensive renovations at the Edward Babka Aviation Learning Center. We are thankful to everyone who made this project possible.

Kenadi Sovey, student body president and a junior flight operations major, was one of the night’s speakers.

“… We are watching UD grow, not simply for the sake of becoming bigger, but for the sake of becoming better. Every new classroom, every new facility, every new program is another opportunity for a student to discover what they are capable of and take one step closer to the future we imagine for ourselves…”

#UDubuque’s rotor-wing training will soon include a state-of-the-art Cabri G2 AATD simulator from entrol, one of the manufacturer leaders of certified simulators worldwide located in Madrid, Spain.

The simulator’s flight deck is built as an exact replica of the Guimbal Cabri G2, the primary training helicopter operated by UD. This aircraft-specific layout provides students with direct continuity between classroom theory, simulator practice, and actual flight operations.

“… It will allow our students to practice procedures and challenging scenarios in a controlled environment before encountering them in the aircraft, giving them more repetition while improving safety, confidence, and decision-making,” said Evan Lawler (C’20), chief flight instructor – helicopter.

The device is scheduled for installation in 2027.

ALSIM is proud to announce that the @ud_aviation has selected the #Airliner and the #AirlinerTouch, ALSIM's Flat Panel Trainer, to further enhance its airline pilot training program. ✈️

Complementary to the Airliner simulator, the Airliner Touch enables students to build confidence in aircraft systems and operational procedures before progressing to the Airliner for more advanced and immersive training scenarios.

Love takes flight for Kelsey (Dean) Loitz (C'20) and Logan Loitz (C'23). ✈💙

While both UD aviation alums, Kelsey and Logan didn't meet as students. Instead, their story began during the summer of 2022 while working as flight instructors for UD for Kids. At the end of one day, Kelsey was told there were no more airplanes to put away before heading home. Wanting to double-check, she walked into the hangar anyway, where she found one last aircraft waiting that belonged to Logan.

After helping him, she offered him a ride back to the Babka Flight Center. "This fluke event led to our dating and eventual marriage...so thanks, UD for Kids," Kelsey explains.

Their story reached another memorable milestone during a recent Endeavor Air flight. After hoping for nearly two years to fly together, the couple finally shared their first trip as husband and wife. Although they are based in different locations, a fellow first officer happily swapped trips to make the experience possible. Not only did they finally get to fly together, but this trip also marked Kelsey's final flight as a first officer before being promoted to captain.

This trip included an overnight stay in Moline, Illinois, where they were able to spend time with family before returning to Atlanta, Georgia. Blue skies and tailwinds, Spartans! by @ud_aviation
