Happy 251st Birthday to the United States Navy!

Today, October 13, 2026, we celebrate 251 years of honor, courage, and commitment. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Sailors and veterans, past and present, who have served our nation with dedication, sacrifice, and unwavering resolve. We also remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedom and the values our nation holds dear. Their legacy continues to inspire the next generation of naval leaders here at UF.

Here’s to 251 years of service, tradition, and excellence, and to the Sailors who continue to defend our nation at sea and around the world.

This was a unique week for the Gator Battalion!

Tropical storm, Isaias, forced a dynamic schedule. Lab was a productive look at FITREPs and counseling procedures. Then, the marines were hard at work on their Thursday morning gear run. Friday, the entire battalion showed out to march in the Homecoming parade, and we finished out the week watching the flyover for the homecoming game!

This week, UFNROTC got to explore the possible paths after commissioning during our first Warfare Community Club meetings on Tuesdays Lab.

The Aviation Club visited University Air and got the chance to tour a P-8 aircraft. The Submarine Club got to visit and tour UF’s nuclear reactor. The Marine and Surface Warfare Clubs received presentations about their respective communities. The Nursing and Special Warfare Clubs each met with current active duty officers over Zoom and were able to ask pertinent questions about life in those communities.

⚓️ FIRST CLASS FRIDAY ⚓️

This week’s First Class Friday features MIDN Alex Edgar from Peachtree Corners, Georgia!

Edgar is a Political Science major and currently serves as the Battalion Executive Officer. She has also officially service selected as a Surface Warfare Officer and is getting ready to trade Van Fleet Hall for the fleet.

Ever since she was little, Edgar knew she wanted to serve in something bigger than herself. She hopes to make a positive impact on the sailors she leads while helping protect and defend the citizens of the United States.

Her favorite NROTC memory? Tulane Drill Meet 2025, apparently waking up early and voluntarily traveling to compete in drill counts as “fun.”

Give it up for MIDN Edgar as she finishes out her time at UF and prepares to join the Surface Warfare community!

On October 13th, UF NROTC will be hosting a fundraiser from 1800-2200 at Raising Cane’s on West University Ave. Orders placed through the app or online using code RCFUND96 or mentioning the fundraiser in person will contribute to the event. Cane’s will donate 15% of net sales from that evening directly to our unit.

Fundraisers like this are essential in supporting key battalion activities, including Navy Ball, labs, and other professional development events. Please spread the word and encourage everyone to come out to help make this effort successful! Friends and family are welcome and appreciated!

⚓️ FIRST CLASS FRIDAY ⚓️

This week’s First Class Friday features MIDN Jonah Bennett, coming to us from Pompano Beach, FL. Bennett is an Industrial and Systems Engineering major, currently serving as our MIDN Commanding Officer, and is hoping to select EOD as his service community after commissioning in Fall 2027. Why does he want to serve? “To safeguard the freedoms that my friends, family, and I enjoy daily.” And after all the training, early mornings, and NROTC memories, his favorite one is somehow… being roommates with MIDN Murray and Spencer. We’ll let you decide what that says about him.

Give it up for MIDN Bennett! ⚓️
