I haven’t posted myself singing on here in awhile, and honestly it’s because in the past few years, I’ve somehow developed the most comically tragic fear a performer can have - the fear of being perceived. Or rather, the misconception that being perceived = being judged. And because of this misguided belief I’ve built up in my head, my relationship with music has become so complex, almost painful, and my resistance to doing the thing I love the most plagues me every day. There was a time I found it difficult to even listen to music at all.
I’ve done what I can to combat this, like letting the music take a back seat and focusing on acting to rebuild my confidence and force myself to perform in front of people more frequently. But the thing that’s helped me regain my passion the most has been delightfully unexpected - teaching.
To work with kids and even some of my peers and watch them find the joy that comes with learning music has helped me remember what it felt like when I first started learning myself. To be able to express yourself through music is true freedom, and a great privilege.
With time I will post more videos and maybe even release something of my own this year. I have so many songs I love that have been shelved, but I promise one day I’ll dust them off.
Don’t ever let anyone discourage you from your passions - especially yourself.
