The Dalmatian Pelican (Pelecanus crispus) is one of the world's heaviest flying birds and one of Europe's most endangered — fewer than 9,000 pairs remaining in the wild. Lake Kerkini in northern Greece hosts one of the last healthy, accessible colonies anywhere.

I spent days on a private boat at Kerkini. 4AM starts every morning. The pelicans came to us — drawn in by local fishermen who have fed them through winter for decades, changing their migration in the process. Conservationists debate whether that is conservation or interference. The pelicans, for their part, do not seem conflicted.

What you are swiping through is the full story: the mirror-still water at first light, the 3-metre wingspan frozen mid-stroke at 1/3200s, the breeding plumage up close — that wild curly crest and crimson gular pouch that only appears for a few weeks each year. Chased puffins across countries, but would I find them?

Two weeks ago, I set out to photograph puffins, those quirky seabirds with rainbow beaks. It started in Göteborg, Sweden, with my camera and a dream. I drove to Oslo, through forests and fjords like a postcard. Then, a flight to Kirkenes, in Norway’s Arctic north, where the air’s crisp and sharp. From there, I drove to Vardø, a tiny town where sea meets sky.

The real challenge was Hornøya, a rocky island packed with seabirds. I took a boat over icy waves, heart racing. But on Hornøya, no puffins. Just kittiwakes and guillemots, scared off by a white-tailed eagle circling above. Half the day passed—nothing. I was losing hope.

Then, sunlight broke through, and there it was: one puffin, waddling on a cliff, its beak glowing. I forgot my camera and just watched, amazed by its clumsy charm. It dove, popped up, and shook its wings like it knew I was there. I snapped shots later, but that first puffin stole my heart.

This trip taught me: sometimes, you don’t capture the moment—you live it.

Sweden keeps doing this to me. Detail below 👇
I've been here long enough to know every season by heart — and somehow, this country still finds new ways to make my jaw drop.

Slide 1 — a road that passes through a living tree, buried inside a sea of yellow rapeseed. Shot from above. I still can't believe this is real.

Slide 3 — Ales Stenar. 59 massive boulders arranged in the shape of a ship, sitting on a clifftop 32 metres above the Baltic. Built around 600 AD. Nobody agrees on why. The wind doesn't stop there. Neither does the feeling.

Slide 4 — Skanör. White sand, shallow warm water, summer light that goes on forever. Swedes call it the Florida of Sweden. After you visit, you stop arguing with that.

Slide 5 — The ICEHOTEL in Lapland. A different artist sculpts every room. Every winter. And every spring, it melts back into the Torne River, like it was never there.

Slide 6 — Gullholmen. An island so small and so perfectly untouched that it feels like it exists slightly outside of time.

Slide 7 — Hornborgasjön. Up to 30,000 common cranes descend on this lake every spring. They dance. Actually dance — bowing, leaping, circling each other. 150,000 people come to watch them every year. I understand why.

Slide 8 — A heart-shaped lake. Sweden just has one of these. Of course it does.
