Wafer-thin Balustrade: Designing for Weightlessness Weightless, beautiful and reassuringly stable to hold. Swipe along to see the details of this wafer-thin oak triboard balustrade. We wanted to see just how far we could push the profile of natural European oak without sacrificing safety and ease of use. By utilising engineered triboard, we achieved an ultra-slim silhouette that won't warp or flex, yet feels incredibly warm and velvety under your hand. Shot 1: The Profile — an ultra-slim, minimalist edge Shot 2: The Context — Floor and balustrade and stair are architecturally seamless Shot 3: Stairside — revealing that the oak panel is structurally sound & securely fixed and has become a wall lining, the oak finishes are consistently matte white oiled to gently expose grain and retain a beautiful, pinkish tone for years to come. This project was born from historic structural disaster, went through a pandemic, planning & political rollercoasters, so it only felt right that the final photoshoot happened during a record-shattering heatwave. INCLUSIVE ARCHITECTURE FOR A DAZZLING MIND Victorian Flat Conversion for an MS Sufferer 'A SAFE PLACE FOR SARAH' is a fully wheelchair accessible flat conversion that celebrates a lifelong love of literature and daily delight. The project sensitively retrofits a typical 1980s one-bedroom ground floor flat within a Victorian terrace in the Whitehall Park Conservation Area.
