Happy International Wheelchair Day!
Throwback to my yoga classes at Rollettes Experience 💕
I was honored and stoked to teach- and also very intimidated.
Looking at all the women in the room, I was overwhelmed by the strength and beauty.
The presence of everyone together was incredible and it still makes me emotional all these years later.
They are why I feel proud to be disabled.
They are why today is a celebration.

☀️ disconnect tpn & connect to iv hydration 💧
❄️ defrost tpn
✨ disconnect hydration & setup tpn infusion

FINALS Day at the 🇺🇸US Open 🌎 in 📍Oceanside, CA

Just so dang grateful to be present for it all & spend quality time with legendary disabled friends, even if it did feel way too short 🩵 @ktbeattie it was so rad to spend time with you in our favorite element 🌊

Unfortunately wasn’t allowed to compete 💔 but disability has prepared me well for coping with disappointment, so we rolled with it. Our day started with another sunrise surf & then wanted to surf one more time on the south side of the pier ☀️ Luckily the GoPro did catch these sessions so look forward to a few vlogs soon!

Thank you so much to Uncle Sandy aka “the SPAMbassador” and all the water safety and transfer assist volunteers who assisted us in and out of the water and set up our beach paradise home 🤙🏻

See you all in Hawaii next year 🤟🏻🩵🤙🏻

Day 3 of the 🇺🇸 US Open Adaptive Surfing Championships 🌎 in 📍 Oceanside, CA 🌊

We had such an AMAZING sunrise surf sesh but unfortunately the GoPro didn’t record any of it 😂 So you’ll just have to trust me that I caught the best most epic waves of my life. I was one with Mama Ocean and her power 🌊 She had me somersaulting backwards over rocks on the beach. Surfing my home break of the Point will feel much less scary after this trip.

We also didn’t realize quite how far the current took us down the beach until poor Katie had to run all the way back to the comp site to grab my ♿️ chair. This anonymous dude saw Katie carrying me and immediately jumped in to help, and even sat & chatted with me until Katie returned. No doubt digging into his own surf session time.

These adaptive surfing adventures really bring together the best of humanity. Between all of the 90 surfers coming together from 16+ countries each having their own beautiful story, presence and humor, their supporters, and the people who volunteer to make these events so great, I definitely had tears in my eyes most of this trip. Especially because there was a lot of sand in my eyes 😂

I can’t explain how healing going on a trip like this is, especially with a friend as great as @waveykatie, when you’ve spent most of your life only traveling for medical procedures. It takes a lot of courage to live again after you’ve survived significant trauma but it is so worth it. @elevatedyou.ig

Celebrating my ✨ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY ✨ on Nutritional Life Support, TPN ☀️ at
Day 2 of the 🇺🇸 US Open ASC 📍in Oceanside, CA 🌊

Today we opted for rest and started our day off at Camp Coffee where I had Shrek’s ashes (matcha haha) and risked some DELICIOUS toast. We then leisurely watched the competition, livestream in hand, from the rooftop pool at our hotel where we could see the surfers! We had amazing company, chatting with pro surfer Michelle 🌊

After the competition ended for the day, Katie and I hopped in the car to go scout out famous surfing spots in the area. Katie couldn’t help herself to a sunset boogie at Swamis 🩵

I was in a very reflective mood all day, mostly just so grateful to compare how I am now to a year ago when I was severely malnourished, bed-bound & out of my mind. Today I’m nourished, surfing, and more present and myself than before. I feel alive, and grateful to have made it to one year on TPN.

Three episodes of bacteremia and sepsis in one year isn’t great. So much of my future is uncertain, I don’t have a prognosis because my case is so rare. Continuing on TPN is certainly terrifying. I’m trying to hold space for it all: the fear, the grief and the gratitude and joy.

One thing IS for certain: i’m not giving up.

Opening Day at the @adaptivesurfingprofessionals 🇺🇸 US OPEN Adaptive Surfing Championships 🤙🏻

Started early with a parade of nations & a sand pouring ceremony, where I added my “jar of dirt” from 36 ave (Santa Cruz) 🌊 Melting, we sought refuge in our hotel’s air conditioning to cool off, it was a HOT one ☀️! @theseabird

We then went to my @isasurfing Classification appointment. They use Paralympic criteria, and unfortunately it is very rigid and exclusionary. Due to my rare disease and my ability to flex my ankle, I did not meet minimum impairment criteria and was found to be “NE - Not Eligible”. Even though I depend on wheelchairs full time.

Unlike Hawaii where I was allowed to compete anyway, I was not allowed to compete at the US Open 💔. I eat setbacks for breakfast, so this wasn’t about to stop me from surfing everyday with my @adaptivesurfingprofessionals surf ohana & surf bestie/coach @waveykatie 🩵

Our first surf North side of Oceanside Pier was slammin thanks to hurricane Maria, so It was a humbling surf. No waves were caught, the waves caught me. I was proud of myself for going out in a new surf spot in challenging conditions, and trying to push through the break as long as we did. With @waveykatie by my side, it was a great experience & being thrown around like a ragdoll was FUN, albeit slightly terrifying 😂
