Thinking back to Botswana. We camped way out. The only thing between us and the lions was a thin strip of canvas. There’s something about a lion’s roar that can’t be communicated. The rumbling of the ground, the shaking of the air. It hits something in your soul that’s been long forgotten. Living as prey again. It’s good to be reminded. #animals #nature by @unc.pappy

Leaning back, perched on the edge, a single shaded monolith rising behind me like some ancient, porous, angel of death guarding the mountain from the valley. Birds dart beneath you and the wind whips through the canyon. Across the green, flat expanse rise more sand castle outcroppings, like God got bored at the beach. The sun’s going down now and I’m hours from anywhere to sleep. Still, I can’t bring myself to break from watching the sky purple and the shadows lengthen on the plan below. #nature by @unc.pappy

We rode the horses eight hours, up the sheer face of the mountain in search for a fabled fishing spot on the peak. We’d been on the trail about an hour when the rain started, icy and mean out of the East. When we hit the summit, the clouds parted and the afternoon sun cut the claws of the morning chill. We ate like starving men around the fire then dozed in the sun on the shores of the pond. #nature by @unc.pappy
