Raimonds Pauls - "Kāpēk?" (4-track 7" EP, Melodiya Records, 1970)

I think it's important to point out that Raimonds Pauls (b. January 12, 1936 in Riga, Latvia) was not actually the Latvian Miniature of Culture from 1988 to 1993, as I erroneously stated here. He was actually the MINISTER of Culture...which is really a much larger position.

Singer Nora Bumbiere, who's lovely voice is featured on this track, got her start with Raimonds, but went on to become one of the most popular Latvian solo artists of the 1970s and beyond, until her untimely death in 1994 from liver cirrhosis.

I've just discovered these artists, thanks to good ole' Downtown Records in Cheyenne, Wyoming. But I'd love to hear from people who are already familiar with them, and can tell more about their influence on the Latvian music scene in the 1970s.

Bow Wow Wow - "When the Going Gets Tough the Tough Get Going" (LP, RCA Records, 1983)

A few corrections:
1.) This LP was released in 1983, not '82.
2.) "Do You Wanna Hold Me" went to no. 77 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, not 76.
3.) It's the Watch and Clock Museum (not Clock and Watch)...and it's in Columbia, Pennsylvania, not Chester.
Is ANYTHING I said in this video even TRUE!? 😫

I wonder why I never look these things up before I make a video, and always only right after! 😄

Also, Bow Wow Wow didn't arise from the remnants of Adam and the Ants...but from the remnants of the ORIGINAL LINEUP of that group. Adam acquired new Ants and soldiered on into the 1980s after his first set of Ants was stolen to form Bow Wow Wow.

What's your favorite song by Bow Wow Wow? They're one of the best bands of the '80s, if you ask me. 🤩

The Ellison Family - "The Ellison Family" (LP, Vision Records, 19?? ... likely mid-to-late 1960s)

"I've Got That Old Time Religion" is another one of the tracks featured on this record...and they ain't kidding. The Ellison Family has got old time religion in spades! ♠️
I'd love to hear from anyone who has more info on this fabulous musical family...and if you are PART of The Ellison Family, even better! 😀

Brock Peters - "Sing'A Man" (LP, United Artists Records, 1959)

Presenting...one of my favorite voices from my collection: Brock Peters!
...who I, regrettably, refer to intermittently in this post as "Brock Peterson." I don't even know if he HAS a son! Anyway, my apologies for the error.
Also, he was born not on January 2nd, but on July 2nd...like my sister. 🚫🧠
Nobody's perfect...except maybe Brock Peterson.

Dolly Parton - "Best of Dolly Parton" (LP, RCA Records, 1975)

I was working, delivering mail on Phinney Ridge, when my friend Eduardo called to tell me the sad news. Dolly Parton was gone. What a loss.
It's been sweet sadness ever since to watch so many wonderful tributes, and all the interviews and performances from the past, to hear Dolly telling funny stories, and to read about all the good Dolly Parton has done with the fortunes she's earned from her talents and her stardom.
My sister found an interview where Dolly mentions that she wrote one song specifically for the purpose of burying it somewhere in Dollywood, where it will be unearthed and played for the very first time to the public...in the year 2045.
Isn't it just like Dolly Parton, even as she's waving us goodbye, to gift us with a pretty darn good reason to go on living for at least another 20 years?

We will miss you, Dolly. 😔

The Gospelaires - "Two Sides of The Gospelaires" (LP, ABC Records, 1973)

Happy Sunday! Here's a terrific gospel record I picked up on my Ohio Road Trip back in the summer of 2011. I found this one at Used Kids Records in Columbus...which I remember as being one of the state's best record shops.
The Gospelaires are originally from Dayton, which is another one of the cities I visited on my trip...and it's also where one of my favorite bands, The Breeders, are from. Dayton must be THE Ohio city of amazing music! 😃

It's another "Lady of the '80s"...this time, Stevie Nicks! "Stand Back" and "After the Glitter Fades" are my two favorite singles by Stevie Nicks. What are yours?
I'm a little ashamed that it took me so doggone long to be able to grasp the greatness of this woman. 😔

Los Felinos - "Flor Morena / Flecha de Amor" (LP, Musart Records, 1975)

Los Felinos formed in the early 1970s in Zacapu, Michoacán thanks to Los Hermanos Maldonado (the Maldonado brothers), aka. Vicente "Paysa," Javier, Gerardo, and José Luis. Plus one other guy, it would seem. Maybe he was with the family in foster care?
Hold on a second...I've just received a telegram from A.I. There IS a fifth brother in the family: Adolfo. My sources are artificial, admittedly...but I'll go with it anyhow. Aww...I bet their mom still cuts their hair. 🥰
Has anyone seen any of Los Felinos' recent shows? How are they?
What other Mexican groups from the 1960s and early '70s are some of your favorites?

Aldous Harding - "Train on the Island" (LP, 4AD Records, 2026)

It's 4AD Friday!
The British 4AD label released the first of its records 46 years ago...but they're still introducing the world to some of the best music of today.
New Zealand artist Aldous Harding released "Train on the Island" mere weeks ago, maybe a month. It's her 4th LP on the label, and it's already become one of my favorites.

Omega - "Skyrover" (LP, Fantasy Records, 1978)

Here's one of the LPs I found in Seattle that had me daydreaming of digging through dozens of bins in the record shops of beautiful Budapest.
