HUGE THANK YOU to @unclebobbies for hosting me + @drjeremycmccool in celebration of our book, Raps of Resistance ✊🏾 And a special shoutout to @amandaleetv for moderating the event.

When we first put our book tour together, Uncle Bobbie’s was at the top of the list. It’s an institution that forges community and champions Black authors seeking to better the world through the written word. And we’re honored to be a part of that lineage.

It’s important that people know what happened with our planned event with Colin Kaepernick.
….

We are profoundly disappointed with Kevin Johnson and NAB2’s handling of the Colin Kaepernick’s upcoming book tour.

Prior to the announcement of the tour, another tour had already been organized with several other bookstores, including Uncle Bobbie’s.

Although NAB2 was fully aware of the previous arrangements, they nonetheless chose to undermine our collective efforts, forcing the stores to cancel previously scheduled dates.

As a result, multiple bookstores (including Black-owned stores) lost considerable revenue, and wasted valuable resources planning these events.

While these circumstances would be disturbing under any circumstances, it is particularly concerning that it was created by Mr. Johnson and NAB2, an organization whose expressed mission is to support and uplift Black-owned bookstores.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to recover what has been lost. Moving forward, we hope that Mr. Johnson and NAB2 ceases these harmful business practices and doesn’t do anything else to undermine the efforts of other Black-owned bookstores.

Philly Book Crawl has become one of the biggest days on our calendar. It’s absolutely amazing how Philly collectively shows up for its indie bookstores. @ericsmithrocks you should be very proud of what you built.

@shaqweenan & @rhill_ had their first date at Uncle Bobbie’s four years ago and last Sunday, they got engaged in the same spot.
