The Balearic Barndance returns to the Lido on Sat 24th Oct for it’s quarterly run-out and its 1 Year Anniversary!

Channelling the freewheelin ethos of the ‘balearic’ sound & style, the Mt Pleasant dance den will be guided through a hay-bale of oddball disco, Caribbean window-steamers, globe-trotting funk, dubby dynamite and soulful sweaters.

The Balearic Barndance is a high energy space for communal dancing—opening it’s arms to leftfield chinstrokers, two-left-feeters and curious passersby alike.

It’s oft been said that “a James in the hand is worth two in the booth”, so with him away for this shindig we’ve called up two able stablemates and friends of the show:
Body Double & Mr Merlot. You’re in safe hands.

The dance kicks off at 9pm and stampedes on til the crows come home. No cover, no jabronis, no problem...

Hello! I've broken virtual containment and am climbing into the saddle with one of my favourite local disc slingers @how__to to play for you some Earth rhythms at the @thegardenstrathcona this coming Saturday from 6-11pm. Hello! I have not forgotten you valued listener, I have been shifting some plates around in my life and will still be providing you with top shelf audio entertainment via the world wide web but on a less frequent basis.

With that housekeeping out of the way, allow me to recount a recent sojourn I had with my good friend @izzy_sawdust : We were out in the beautiful country when we spied a strange stone in our path. Excavating it, we found a cassette, sealed within a glove of stone. Carefully chipping away, we saw the names on the side: DJ Caveman b2b DJ Iceman, no dates, no further clues.

Listening back in the palacial Blue Room studio with a bottle of red, we heard the most jacking and rugged mix imaginable, 4 hours of racked up beats that I trimmed down to a sensible 2 hour listening experience. Sheer prehistoric madness that I contemplate even now. The beauty of the animal that is man!

Hello darlings, its 2026, the shit factory keeps on working bur we work harder, no matter how fucked things get, we keep us safe and we can always do something different to make the world we want to see, don't let any fucking freak tell you otherwise!

Been revisiting things that really anchor me lately and decided to go back to basics and do a special on a DJ and Producer that really changed how I think about music in general, Theo Parrish.

I first heard Theo's music on a Palace skate video a decade and a bit back, the track was "How I Feel". It lifted my lid entirely off my head and rearranged my shit permanently. I think its probably a nod to Sun Ra (unsubstantiated) but thats another coversation!

Basically everything I have ever listened to has altered my mental landscape, every mix is a lesson in how little you know about music or DJing. Its crazy to exist at the same time as this guy and still havent had time to attend one of his sermons. Perhaps the future will still bless me.

2025, we try to do our best, love each other the best we can, lift each other up, and hold it all together. Sometimes I feel like we can turn the corner any day now, and I certainly hope we take more steps to do so!

Exorcising the feeling and rocking in the box today with local legend @spin_class for two hours today, 4-6 PM Pacific. I'll be playing some records that I bought this year and getting to know Psyche D's selections. Im predicting some nicer weather on the airwaves with some breezy moments.

Yo! You're not imagining things, he's posting on main, he's been enjoying a giant bread this week (see above), he's got a juicy selection of tunes to enjoy on a CRISP fall/winter day that you can enjoy in the comfort of your domicile/work situation. I got the homie @__psoasdj from PDX joining me, warming up before a hot party tomorrow, Nov 29th with @z.d.b.t @___draino and @yasmeena__k at Pangea.

We'll be rinsing out some tracks from 2:30-4:30 PM today at @bsidedotradio come thru if you're in the hood for a chill or tune in on your device of choice.

The wind howls...and the night creaks awake...the spirits are screaming...what frights...may await!!!!

Ok yeah its your boy, Mr Merlot, back again with something hot and ready, wont cost you a dime though! Three years is a long time to maintain a habit, probably says something about me that I have kept this up as long as I have and I really have no desire to quit anytime soon. I am committed to always bringing you two hours of solid cuts from myself and my wonderful guests as long as @bsidedotradio will allow me! Thank you to Jamal and Dom for keeping the space going and allowing me to freak it.

My guest today is longtime @the_lido mainstay and local legend @izzy_sawdust . Theres not much I can say other than he's the moon to my sun, the ying to my yang, we can link up at anytime and always find the beat together. Ian's taste and skill have been a huge influence on me in finding my own voice and wanting to be half as good as he is, every time we record or play together I learn something new that I had never considered! Its always a pleasure throwing down with him and we really blended something special in fitting with the season.

Hello! Big shout out to @mainstreetdanceauthority for a wonderful friday evening in a big room style, truly dragged my ass out of my usual reserved self and ironed me out properly! If you have a will, they have a way!

Today on the program its just you and me and a couple bags of records. I had a lovely time playing at a banging new spot in Victoria @softer.drink to celebrate two of my deepest loves on planet E venturing into a new chapter. The bevs flowed and the tunes were bubbly. I decided that we'll take some of those new sounds for a spin along with the usual array of classics and left field freak outs.

As always, tune in at @bsidedotradio, chat me up on Twitch, come down and give me a hard time if you want. Or just wish me nothing but love! The choice is yours, use it or lose it as they say.

Yo! Aaaaaaaaaaand we're back! Summer has been hot and heavy so I missed last month, I am holding myself accountable and I promise I will be making that up to you very soon!

In the meantime, today on Lost In The Vineyard we have one of Vancouver's sickest DJ's, @ryhoesch joining me in the kitchen, we've cranked the dial to 'House' and we're trusting intuition to guide us from 4-6 pm PST.
