Last night’s session was pretty much perfect. The sunset, the field, the colors, and especially this family.

Hey guys!!

So about 10 years ago I taught photography classes to moms and students and loved them!

However, life got busy and I had to stop. I’ve started back up with private lessons last week and this week so I thought I would start posting a few photography tips on here as well.

I plan to offer group classes, practice sessions, and much more in the coming months. My goal is to fully launch some classes at least by January, but maybe sooner!

As always, I always ask myself “What is my why?” My why for these classes it because I think with all my heart that investing in the art of photography helps you see outside of yourself and notice the beautiful world around you. I will expound on mental health as it relates to art and photography in our classes, but for now just know that is my why. I want to share everything I’ve learned since high school (back in 1997 to be exact) with you! Photography was a part of my life well before I became a nurse in 2005 and it has walked with me through some of life’s best and hardest moments. ##photography #photographylessons

I’ve loved getting to take photos of this family multiple times over the years.

This sweet mom and I worked together at @childrens PICU in Dallas forever ago!! I always have a sweet spot in my heart for pediatric nurse families. ❤️❤️

Also, isn’t this location amazing?!?! It’s slowly becoming one of my favorites. Aaannnd, it’s right next to @joetgarcias_ and @hoteldrover in the @fortworthstockyards, so it’s a perfect spot to take photos and grab some dinner or shop. taken in Fort Worth, Texas by @unearthedphotography

Yesterday we had a big storm and I wasn’t sure we could still do this session. I had prepared to just reschedule, but at almost the exact time of this session the Thunder and lighting stopped. The rains ceased and the sky opened up. It was almost magical how beautiful the sky looked. After this session I even saw a rainbow in the sky. That’s just life some days isn’t it? It looks impossible to move forward and take the next step. Then suddenly there is an unexpected break in the rains, the clouds clear up, the sun breaks through and it’s not just a pretty day, it’s better than you could have ever imagined it. You are reminded of the promise that you are never alone. That’s a good day.

I have known these kids their entire lives and I’m proud of them. I know this session on this day was pretty special for many reasons. by @unearthedphotography

Senior photos are always so special to me. However, every once in a while I get the privilege of doing senior photos of a close friend’s kiddo that I’ve known for a long time. As I post this, many will see a cool/strong cross country runner with some cool medals and shoes. What I know @saralizphoto and those of us who know Caleb see is a kid who has overcome so many unfair health issues and has come out stronger than ever. Words and photos sometimes just can’t convey the full depth of a story. This kid is resilient, tenacious, steadfast, and humble in every way. I loved taking these. Caleb is definitely a warrior and I can’t wait to see what he does next!!
On another note…cross country runners are the best! This was my first cross country specific photo session and I know it won’t be my last! by @unearthedphotography

Last week I got to be a part of something very special with @thenetfw . For the past 3-4 years I’ve had the incredible honor of photographing some of the most brave and resilient women I’ve ever known. These are women who have made the brave decision to look a broken cycle in the face and knock it over each and every day. They are survivors of human trafficking and they are heros for every generation to come behind them. @thenetfw helps, loves, mentors, and brings humanity to their lives as they spend years in a government run program called Rise. It takes them 3-4 years to finish the very intensive program. Next month they graduate as the class of 2026. Last week we took their cap and gown photos. A lady once told me after looking at her photo in the back of my camera “Wow, I really do look healthy. That’s beautiful, I really have changed so much”. I had never heard that response before from a woman seeing herself in a photo. Another woman said “I’ve never graduated from anything. This is my first time” as we place a cap and tassel on her head. This is one of those organizations doing the good work when no one is looking. They don’t have to purchase caps, gowns, have a cap making party, have certificates, special lunches…etc, but they do because they are their biggest advocates. Don’t we all deserve to have someone to advocate and celebrate us? @melissaice (the founder) spoke with them and everyone in the room was brought to tears to hear her testimony and heart for these women as well as the women in her life. I am excited to see these ladies walk the stage next month. This type of photography is my most important work…sharing stories to bring awareness, people together and maybe even just to show someone that they really are healthier now than they have ever been before. by @unearthedphotography

Can we talk about the summer? Because it was awesome. I was so honored to take photos of one of my favorite families on the planet while on vacation at @cinnamon_shore. We love going to Port A each year. Im clearly having a lot of fun baking and taking photos of the end result. I love serving these up in the morning or with my afternoon coffee. They definitely aren’t the healthiest muffin, but definitely delicious! You can add powdered sugar to the top before serving, add mini chocolate chips to the batter, ice them w cream cheese frosting to make them a cup cake or you can even just make a cake out of this batter. It has alot of variations so you can’t go wrong. If you want to have a taste of fall in a muffin, then make these! Even my dog Ginger tried to steal these when I was taking these photos!!! (Yes, the binoculars in that photo are for bird watching because I’m 44 years old and suddenly the birds are just very fascinating 🤣😬😭)
