It’s funny to be in a position where people ask me things and I have things to share. I hope the things I share are helpful and productive for people. Thank you for the feature, @boldjourneymag !! taken in Charleston, South Carolina by @unflappable_clare

It’s a little bit surreal that I even get my picture taken by anyone.

I still don’t like attention. But I’m also proud. And I want other people who think they’re “too shy” “too small” “too much” to know they’re not “too” anything.

They’re just right.

And they need to find the people who see them. There’s a seat at The Cafe Table (coming soon!) for all of us.

Things are getting spooky at Charleston Film Network.

Join us Monday, October 19 at the Park Circle Community Center for our October Screamer Club — a night of local short films, filmmaker conversations, food trucks, networking, and a little Halloween spirit.

Doors open at 6 PM, with the first hour set aside to grab food, meet other local creatives, and hang out before the screenings begin.

Come in costume, wear something cozy, or bring a blanket and settle in for the night.

The event is free, but registration is required. Our Screamer-worthy film lineup will be announced soon.

PARAPRONOIA Presents
COSMIC CULTURE CLUB: MUTATION
A spooky season celebration of art and all things weird.

Join us Friday, October 23 at Tin Roof Charleston for the inaugural Cosmic Culture Club, a queer prioritized night of film, live performance, music, costumes, raffle prizes, and dancing.

Reservation link in bio!!

We’re kicking things off with a curated screening of horror, experimental film, music videos, stop motion animation, and video art, from local and regional creators, centering Southern LGBTQ voices.

Then we move into Burlesque, Drag, and a special performance from the world of PARAPRONOIA.

Mutation is mandatory. Costumes are encouraged.

7 PM Doors
8 PM Screening
9 PM Live Performances
9:30 PM to 11:30 PM Dance + Raffle
Official After Party at Dudley’s until late

Hosted by:
Venus Alexander + PARAPRONOIA
Performances by:
Queen Conch
Venus Alexander
Sil
Music by:
Web Hollow
DJ Leo Lynx

This inaugural gathering is a fundraiser for PARAPRONOIA: Lucid Nightmare, my experimental science fiction film about mutation, isolation, addiction, recovery, transformation, and finding your way back to connection.

We’ll also have wicked raffle prizes from local businesses and community supporters, with more details announced soon!

$20 suggested donation
Sliding scale available
No one turned away for lack of funds! Give what you can <3

Cosmic Culture Club is a queer prioritized space that centers queer people, people of color, trans and nonbinary people, disabled people, POZ people, underprivileged people, and our trusted friends and family.

This is the first of what I hope will become an ongoing series supporting different regional artists, projects, and organizations with each gathering.

A huge thank you to all of the artists and filmmakers sharing their work, and to every creative helping bring this night to life on both the screening and performance sides.

Special thanks to Charleston Film Network and Unflappable Studios for the production support, to The Velvet Pony for sponsoring and being completely down to clown for the cause, and to Tin Roof for opening her doors and being so incredibly accommodating. Lastly, thank you to Dudley’s for welcomin taken in Tin Roof by @unflappable_clare

Unhinged and Cringe 💅 All fun and games and I’m supposed to be posting more so here it is!! 🦤

But in all seriousness—Sometimes people want to dim your light and that’s okay! Sunscreen exists. Just keep shining and lighting the way. Chances are, you’re helping light the way for someone else too. So stay strong. We’re in this together. by @unflappable_clare

🎬 WHAT A NIGHT, CHARLESTON!

Our latest Charleston Film Network Screener Club was a huge success, and we couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who showed up to support local film.

We packed the evening with three locally made shorts — What a Beautiful Wedding, I’ll Take Care of You, and Sealed with a Kiss — followed by conversations with the filmmakers themselves. But just as important as what happened on screen was what happened around it: filmmakers meeting filmmakers, new connections being made, conversations continuing between screenings, and our community showing up for each other.

A huge thank-you to Michael Smallwood, Taiyen Stevenson, and Zachary W. Weaver for sharing their work and giving us a look behind the scenes during our Q&As.

Special thanks to Ann Simmons and Park Circle Community Center for helping us create a home for this event, and to Butter Chicken, Da Kajun Xpress, and Sweet Butt Not So Sweet for keeping everyone fed throughout the night!

And finally, thank you to our CFN team, volunteers, filmmakers, and every single person who came through the doors.

This is exactly what we want Screener Club to be: Charleston filmmakers watching local work, talking about the craft, meeting collaborators, and building a stronger filmmaking community together.

More films. More filmmakers. More opportunities to create together.

We’ll see you at the next one. 🎥❤️

🔥 HOT TAKE 🔥 Filmmaking is THAT easy…

….meaning it’s almost impossible to find your way through. That’s why I dedicate so much of my time helping indie creators and filmmakers. There are parts will naturally be hard—sales, time management, nurturing your creativity and talent between day jobs, finding funding…

…But I strive to make the other parts a little less impossible—organizing your project, understanding what materials you need and why, pulling relevant data, learning how to market yourself as not only an artist, but as a professional…and that makes things in the first part a little clearer.

I’m cooking something up to help more. We’ll see. If it works it works, if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. Stay tuned. It won’t be boring. And if it is boring, it means the project succeeded with no speed-bumps!!
