Can I just say how freakishly expensive it is to be an human?
.
.
.
Like honestly! Working is really for the birds and the system is not set up for us to succeed. Really!?
.
.
.
Just imagine you want to just live or even just exist…. That shit is expensive. Everything cost!

Not eating well… Cost!

Eating well… Cost!

Just trying to get by… Cost!

Want to just exist? Cool… Cost!

Some days I think why is life so hard? Why aren’t we all financially stable and well off? Or at least have the government, the same ones that force us to pay them come together and actually help us out. We shouldn’t know anyone hungry or homeless. Like seriously! How is it even possible?
.
Tell you the truth, I don’t know. I’m just here until I’m not. I guess this is life… right? 🤔 by @universityofjamon

1 Year Down, 4 Classes To Go
.
Do I’ve finally hit a year at my job on the 14th of this month (June) and let me tell you, I’ve learned so much in this time on my journey to becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).
.
So, what did you come across?
.
I’m glad you asked! 😁🙌🏾❤️
.
So I’ve dealt with clients with ADHD, multiple severities of depression and anxiety, grief, codependency issues, Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOA), Divorce, Domestic Violence, Schizophrenia, just to name a few. Also multiple drug addiction disorders such as Opioid, Cannabis, Stimulant, and Amphetamine Use Disorder. And the amount of stories I’ve heard that I will not disclose because just nah.
.
I feel like I’ve grown as a person and as a therapist in training. I done think I’ve ever told do many people “Im proud of you” then working at this job that have never been told that. This job is not for the weak, cause I feel like I tear up every day. One of the greatest compliments told to me is “never change, you’re saving lives, don’t give up and keep planting those seeds”
.
I can’t wait to get my turn to intern (which should be very soon 🤞🏾)
.
What have you been learning at your job in the last year? by @universityofjamon

Is anyone else burnt out or is it me?
.
Okay so why am I burnt out?
.
America. Myself.
.
So I’m evaluating myself and trying to understand where my stress is coming from physically as well as spiritually. I know that I shouldn’t consume so much Stress but I’ve been feeling like everything is coming down on me all at once sometime. Though I can say I have been really good meditating more, praying more, getting outside, and reevaluating myself.
.
Are you on the road to burnout?
You may be on the road to burnout if:
* Every day is a bad day.
* Caring about your work or home life seems like a total waste of energy.
* You’re exhausted all the time.
* The majority of your day is spent on tasks you find either mind-numbingly dull or overwhelming.
* You feel like nothing you do makes a difference or is appreciated.
Okay so what should I do!

Dealing with burnout requires the “Three R” approach:
* Recognize. Watch for the warning signs of burnout.
* Reverse. Undo the damage by seeking support and managing stress.
* Resilience. Build your resilience to stress by taking care of your physical and emotional health.

Dealing with burnout
Tip 1: Turn to other people
Tip 2: Reframe the way you look at work
Tip 3: Reevaluate your priorities
Tip 4: Make exercise a priority
Tip 5: Support your mood and energy levels with a healthy diet

What do you do when you’re burnt out? 🥵 by @universityofjamon

What’s a human anyways?
.
Today I saw myself in another person. A female detainee, fighting for life in addiction. Before you ask, no I’ve never been in addiction, drunk and high AF but never in addiction. Today or tomorrow my be her grandmother’s last day on earth 🌏. She’s fighting cancer, stubborn and doesn’t want chemo, and has had enough procedure last for the rest of her life. This girl was in the same mental place as I was days before I lost my angel 👼🏾 Lillie 💐
.
I can remember the day so well: in my apartment, alone, girlfriend at the time not home, I could think of nothing else but to get home to Orlando ✈️ California San Diego where I was stationed for 5 years of my adult life. It was sunny but my world was dark.
.
The last message I sent “Good Morning Granny” Dec 26, 2016 @ 1147. The next day she would leave me, for what I thought was forever. For the first time in my life, I felt abandoned. I remember my heart stopping as I knew what the call would be. I can’t tell you who can me but I remember the message. Tears, warm, feel down my face. In such disbelief, as I was on my way, I felt like I failed her at not getting there in time. Super emotional: crying, frustrated, and upset. The news hit me like a ton of bricks.
.
This girl, in a substance abuse treatment, will feel the same. With a possibility of missing her grandmothers death, she may cry, be frustrated, and upset. I felt human today. Empathetic and words of encourage, along with a cry along and a story of my grandmother, I left her to feel everything. I truly can say I understand where she is coming from. She smiled after we talked it through, something I didn’t do at the time. And that was it. My human moment.
.
Love you Lillie❤️

Damn I didn’t point my toes! ❤️
.
So today was dope AF. I got an award from my client that are inmate because I work at a prison… Yep I know. But I got awarded “Supportive Staff Award”! 😁🙌🏾 🎉🎊
.
So mentally I’ve been doing better, still trying to get the VA to help me pay for a therapist so yeah. Physically I could always use some sleep 😴 cause lord knows. I honestly haven’t done yoga 🧘🏾‍♂️in a minute and I can’t tell you why? 🤷🏾‍♂️
.
I’m not sure what else to really say. So… have a what’s going on with y’all?
.
Thank you for reading this.

I need more water! 💦 💦

Bad news I received an “F” on a paper for having too many cited information on my paper. Good news I got to turn it in and received the highest grade I can receive for it which was a “B”. I will take it.
.
As I’ve been in school, which seems like forever, I find myself not caring so much about “A”. Yes I would love to have a “4.0” and be summa cum laude. But honestly my dedication has me at 3.6 (cum laude) and I’m fine with that. I do a lot and take on so much that I could ask my brain 🧠 for more but eh, I’ll be fine.
.
I’m almost at A year at my job 🎉and I can’t wait to try something new. I’m not exactly sure was next to my life but I’m excited 😁🙌🏾for the future. I really wanna work with kids for my next job, I think it’ll be very rewarding. I believe working with you would be very rewarding as a therapist. Especially in the inner youth, I can only imagine having a therapist in my younger age what it would do for me emotionally, financially, spiritually, and just in general. But I’m glad I can take that leap of education of faith and therapeutical faith to have the opportunity to do it.🎉
.
Lately I’ve been getting back to ground Zero. Really soul-searching, and trying to figure out what’s my next move to make my best move. There are some things in life that I do feel like I could’ve used in life. And now that I’m in a place mentally and financially to do that I wanna do it. I’m really excited for the future and what it brings. But I’m also willing to work for it too. 🙌🏾😁❤️

Have you ever just been do Busy with life that you couldn’t really enjoy it? I feel like that’s where I am right now. I have a lot of moving parts: 2 classes online for grad school and 4 more to go before interning, needing to find a place to intern, homework consisting of PowerPoint’s/5-10 page papers/brochures etc, fixing , finding time to eat healthy, finding time to be social, my game league, Plant Daddy 🪴 and on and on and on….
.
EXHAUSTED! I need to find balance in life and I’m planning a whole month dedicated to myself: only fruit’s/veggies/tea/water, meditation (5 minutes minimal) when I wake up and before bed, prayer before I lay down and an 30 minutes when I get up, no traveling, no appointments that’s outside of resting, sleep at 10 pm. I’m committed to creating a new balance for my life. ❤️
.
What will commit to for yourself?
Is your life balance? How do you do it?
How do you find time to live in the moment everyday?

I really wanted a slurpee! 🥤
.
To be real, this week was tiring, not tough, just exhausting. Being a human is exhausting. Working is exhausting. Hell finding something to eat is exhausting. But we’re getting through it, aren’t we?
.
Today at work I had to talk a client through being released from prison blues. It sounds crazy. She’s stressed about leaving prison due to wanting to be perfect for her son. I get it. Boy do I get it. I talked her down, made her laugh 😂 and cry 😢 but the reality is, she does have a lot to do and prove. She celebrated 1 year off of heroin. (I’m a Substance Abuse Counselor by the way). But what a feat! And she thanked me. For what? Same thing I was thinking? She thank me because early in her 9 months of the program, I told her I was “Proud” of her. She explained to me that no one in her 33 years of living has told her that.
.
My jaw dropped. I’m 33! I know my mom dukes told me that a million times, and me, at 33, told another adult person at the same age how proud I am of them genuinely and it’s making a difference. It really is the little things in life and the things that we say that can hello a person out.
.
I talked to 4 other people something, if not close, similar in nature, and lord I’m tired 😪
Now I’m driving home from work which takes an hour and 15 minutes (hopefully 🙏🏾) to get home and take a quiz for school, which I’m working to become a Marriage and Family Therapist. I know somebody has to be looking out for me. I can hear my mom, granny, and others now. I’m proud of you! And that’s what keeps me going! Thank you for reading this. Drop a ❤️ if you made it to the end. by @universityofjamon

Honesty is the new black!
.
.
.
It’s been a minute since I’ve posted on here other than my story. I really just needed a break this week, and it has been a long week.
.
I started another class this week and I’m pretty excited about it. I actually got an email telling me to start looking for places to do my practicums. It’s so crazy because what I wanted is close and I see the light. Finally, all this homework, late work nights on the weekend, 40 hour work week and 2 Hour drive to and from work is all added up to becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist. Let’s go lord! by @universityofjamon
