Everyone Tells Me How Much I Look Like You is a celebration of the connection between memory, community and artistic practice. Through shrine, sculpture, video, sound, textile, conductive sound sculptures and illustration, each artist has deconstructed and reimagined what it means to archive and preserve memory within their creative practices. Each of these works serve as a monument to the labour, intention, and process required to show love: to both ourselves and the histories that live within us. Everyone Tells Me How Much I Look Like You platforms the intersections of migrant identity, craft and intergenerational histories through the works of artists: Beau Palmer, Sandy Ma, Emma Rani Hodges, Natasha Tareen, Lucy Chetcuti, Sophie Dumaresq, Zsa LaFine, Rosa Bassett and Marlēné Radice.

The exhibition runs till Sunday 27 September 4pm.

Opening tonight @anca_inc 6pm 🍸👠

Everyone tells me how much I look like you. Curated by Marlene Claudine Radice.

About my works:
This new series of paintings is a collaboration between granddaughter and grandmother. Carmen made pastel drawings with Lucy on Easter Sunday 2026, which have been used by Lucy as transfers in these three works. At the age of 13 Carmen migrated to Australia from Malta on the ship 'Roma', in October 1963. A day after arrival, she caught a train to Refern and got a job in a factory. Carmen worked several jobs to help support her parents and their large family of 12. She has worked many jobs in her life but was primarily a vegetable farmer and 'market gardener'. She has always had a rich and exciting cultural life in her diaspora community in Western Sydney - organising local band concerts, rock n roll dances, community festivals, fundraisers and social clubs. These artworks are a soft reflection on the humour, play, wisdom, and fun, shared by the two women who have a lot of common interests. Despite loss, grief, trauma and illness, happy moments are still found in their relationships and communities.

Final hours of @anca_inc members show.

I have doing a lot of reflecting in the past month on my practice. Its hard to put into words how much this space means to me. Its no exageration to say that without having a dedicated studio these past 4 years, surrounded by many inspiring professional artists, I would not have been able to sustain my art practice at all and would not have had any of the opportunities that have come my way.

Spaces like this are critical to the delicate arts ecosystem in the ACT, and need a lot of support to keep going. Choosing to be an artist when every odd is against you is no small task. Every opportunity contributes immensly to your ability to keep making art in an aggressively corporatised, neo-liberal political system that is tearing communities apart. We need to fight for our precious community spaces that do so much for the wellbeing and resilience of our city.

Every show you visit, and artwork you buy goes a long way to keep places like this running.

Live Performance Piece
Genie Stuart
’10 speakers, merging, forever,’
Saturday 29 August 2026, 5 ~ 7pm

Register Interest via link in bio

Genie Stuart (@genie_beanie_in_the_washing_m) is a producer and performer from Ngunnawal/Ngunawal/Ngambri Country. This live, durational performance takes [Lucy] Chetcuti’s (@untitled.attempts) utopian paintings as a departure point for exploring how sound might construct a utopia within shared space. Found speakers and radios positioned throughout the space invite audiences to move through and within the work at their own pace. Woven through the work are frequencies — 174 Hz, 528 Hz, 432 Hz — each purportedly associated with somatic and restorative effects. Stuart uses live electronics and oboe to rehearse, through sound, an embodied utopia.

This performance is in collaboration with Lucy Chetcuti’s exhibition ‘Thought forms from the queer utopia imaginarium’

The event takes place during the opening night of the Sydney Fringe Festival.
