POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
The University of Massachusetts continues to expand access, advance groundbreaking research, and strengthen opportunity across the Commonwealth.

In his 2026 State of the University message, President @Marty.Meehan reflects on the extraordinary momentum across our campuses — including increasing UMass-funded financial aid to $449 million, growing the UMass endowment by more than $1 billion, and ensuring that one in three in-state undergraduates now attends UMass tuition-free.

Watch the video below to learn more about the progress we’re making together to ensure UMass remains a leading economic and educational force in Massachusetts.

From designing apparel for major sports teams to helping bring one of Lowell's most creative community events to life, @UMassLowell alum Andrew Schuster '20 is putting his graphic design degree to work in some pretty remarkable ways.

As a designer for sports lifestyle brand '47, Schuster has worked on campaigns and apparel for teams like the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, as well as major events including the Super Bowl and FIFA World Cup.

But his creativity doesn't stop there. As volunteer creative director of the Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race, Schuster is giving back to the community and creating opportunities for current UMass Lowell students to gain hands-on experience, just as he did during his time on campus.

Read his story in the link in bio. Graphic design alum Andrew Schuster '20, second from left, encourages a Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race participant through the Maddening Mud Pit outside the Tsongas Center along with fellow Mad Marshalls in banana costumes at the 2017 event. by @uofmass

The story of @UMassBoston has always been one of possibility and opportunity. Now, with the launch of its $250 million Rooted & Rising fundraising campaign, the campus is building on that legacy to create even greater opportunities for future generations.

With more than $182 million already raised, this ambitious campaign will expand scholarships and student support, advance groundbreaking research and innovation, and help prepare students for successful careers.

This effort is about more than investing in a campus; it's about investing in the talent, ideas, and aspirations of people across Boston and beyond. Congratulations to Chancellor Marcelo M Suarez-Orozco and the entire UMass Boston community on this exciting milestone.

Noah Sciambra, MS, an MD/PhD student in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), has received a grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to investigate how natural genetic differences influence a host’s ability to resist toxins produced by the bacterial pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Working in the lab of Read Pukkila-Worley, MD, professor of medicine and director of the MSTP, Sciambra has identified a small region of the C. elegans genome that plays an important role in determining resistance to bacterial pathogens. He's now working to pinpoint the genetic differences within this region that are responsible for resistance.

Click the article in our bio to read about his hopes to pursue a career as a physician-scientist, caring for patients while conducting research that informs the understanding and treatment of their diseases. Sciambra, a proud graduate from the University of Alabama, is considering specializing in allergy and immunology or infectious diseases. ⬆️

11 spots higher and #UMassProud! 🎉

We're thrilled to share that @UMass Amherst climbed 11 spots to No. 30 on The Princeton Review's 2027 Top 50 Best Value Public Colleges list, which recognizes its combination of strong academics, affordability, and career prospects for graduates.

That makes six consecutive years in the Top 50 for UMass Amherst, and it remains the only public university in Massachusetts or New England on the list. The campus also ranks No. 13 nationally among public universities for financial aid.

Last week the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at UMass Chan Medical School presented pins to 10 first-year MD/PhD students and recognized other students in the MSTP for reaching milestones.

Students in the UMass Chan MSTP complete two years of medical school before transitioning to the PhD phase of their training. Upon successfully defending their doctoral thesis they return to medical school for the final two years of training.

Among the milestones achieved during 2025-2026:
• 12 students entered the PhD phase of their training
• 10 students passed the qualifying exam
• 11 students defended their doctoral thesis and returned to medical school for their final two years of training

Eight students in the PhD phase of training received fellowship awards from the National Institutes of Health this past academic year. Two students in the fourth year of medical school will be inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society later this fall.

The pins that were received during the annual Pinning and Advancement Ceremony are Wachusett house pins.

The rankings momentum continues across UMass.

@UMassD ranks among the top 10 public research universities in the nation with fewer than 10,000 students, in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings.

And the accolades don’t stop there...
⬆️ Psychology jumped 37 spots nationally
⬆️ Business climbed 18 spots
⬆️ Nursing remains among the top 9% of programs nationwide

Congrats to the students, faculty and staff whose work continues to move #UMassDartmouth forward!

What can NASA’s new space telescope see that even James Webb can’t?

@UMass Amherst astronomer Alexandra Pope is serving as Science Team Lead for PRIMA, a new NASA space telescope that will explore the far-infrared universe — a part of the spectrum Webb can’t see.

The mission will tackle some big questions: How does water find its way to forming planets? How do galaxies and supermassive black holes evolve together? And how did the universe build the more complex elements of the periodic table?

UMass students will be part of the journey, too. Pope’s lab will develop tools to analyze data from PRIMA, with undergraduate and graduate students helping lay the groundwork for the science to come.
