Whatcha reading these days? 📚📖 📕

👉🏽 Swipe for inspo. And share some of your fave books below.👇🏽

Yesterday was National Read a Book Day. Today is National Buy a Book Day. Tomorrow is International Literacy Day. And September is National Literacy Month.

It’s always a good time to get lit.

So… Buy a book. Borrow a book. Read a book.

Read banned books.

Read the fine print.

Read magazines. And instruction manuals.

Read poetry. And prose.

Read to yourself. Read out loud.

Read to your kids. Have your kids read to you.

Read everything you can. While you can.

Reading is foundational to literacy. And literacy is fundamental to freedom. ✊🏽✊🏿✊🏼

RIP Makini

The last remaining lion at the Philadelphia Zoo has passed away- less than 9 months after the death of his longtime mate, Tajiri.

Born March, 24, 2009, Makini (an African male lion whose name means ‘dignity in Swahili) has been with the Philly Zoo since December 2011.

Makini and Tajiri welcomed four female cubs in 2014. They were the first lion cubs born at the Zoo since 1996.

Tajiri passed away in November 2025. It seems like Makini was in mourning ever since.

Makini was beloved by many — from zoo guests to zoo staff and caregivers. I’ll always remember his resounding roar, majestic mane, and the bond he shared with Tajiri. I’d like to think they’re now reunited in that great Serengeti in the sky. ☺️🕊️☺️

May they both rest in peace.

Long before streaming services, CD players, or the walkman, there was the boombox. Released by Philips Norelco in 1966, it was a large battery-operated portable radio with a built-in cassette deck that allowed users to record radio broadcasts directly onto tape without external microphones.

Popularized in the 70s and 80s by hiphop culture, the boombox became a means of self-expression that echoed through the streets and brought people together.

While the technology has significantly evolved, one thing has remained the same: There’s nothing like the sweet sound of bass boomin’ through a boombox!

Happy International Boombox Day! 🎶🎶🎶
