English (Español 👇🏽): Bachata is 1, 2, 3, Tap. We dance Bachata to Bachata music on the 1, 2, 3, tap (beat and rythm). The 1, 2, 3, tap is the HEART BEAT, the SOUL and the RYTHM of Bachata. It is the foundation, the basic, the basis and the guide to a naturally flowing Bachata dance experience. 1, 2, 3, tap is where the essence and true identity of Bachata lives.

I learned how to dance Bachata naturally, in the streets, from the people of the culture - Dominicans, on the 1, 2, 3, tap. Bachata is a street dance and many of us who learned how to dance it in the streets, dance it naturally on the 1, 2, 3, tap. Almost 30 years later, and I'm still dancing Bachata on the 1, 2, 3, tap every time I dance to a bachata song. And no matter what dance styling and decoration (options) that I use while dancing, I never get off the 1, 2, 3, tap (beat and rythm), for as long as the Bachata song is still on the 1, 2, 3, tap beat (which is 90%+ of the time).

Es la base, lo básico, la base y la guía para una experiencia de baile de Bachata que fluye naturalmente. El 1, 2, 3, tap es donde vive la esencia y la verdadera identidad de la Bachata.

Aprendí a bailar Bachata de forma natural, en las calles, de la gente de la cultura dominicana, en el 1, 2, 3, tap. La bachata es un baile callejero y muchos de nosotros que aprendimos a bailarla en las calles, la bailamos naturalmente en el 1, 2, 3, tap. Casi 30 años después, y sigo bailando Bachata en el 1, 2, 3, tap cada vez que bailo una canción de bachata. Y no importa qué estilo de baile y decoración (opciones) use mientras bailo, nunca me salgo del 1, 2, 3, tap mientras la canción de Bachata siga en el ritmo 1, 2, 3, tap que es más del 90% del tiempo.

In English 🇺🇸 y Spanish 🇩🇴 (comments): It is Bachata... It's not Bachata... How do you measure Bachata?

If the Bachata is danced on 1,2,3,Tap at least 90%+ of the time during the dance, with 10% appropriate styling / decoration options, does it still count as a Bachata?

When the Bachata is created by Dominicans in Dominican Republic and by diaspora Dominicans living in large Dominican communities on the East Coast (USA) - and clearly rooted in Dominican culture, roots, heritage, identity and history but there are slight nuances and differences, and the lines are a bit blurry, as in East Coast USA Bachata style by Dominicans that is seen in the Ataca y Alemana 2008 video parts that I clipped out and uploaded recently... So how / who gets to decide when it is all Dominican? Some agreed and some disagreed that the clip I edited and uploaded was not Bachata. The whole dance video that went viral on YouTube was not majority Bachata but less than one minute of it that I clipped out was the East Coast USA style Bachata by Dominicans... The East Coast USA has the largest Dominican Diaspora population and community in the world. The East Coast USA is also the closest to Dominican Republic.

We all agree that Sensual etc., are not Bachata for obvious reasons: they are not created by Dominicans, they are not bred in Dominican communities, they don't resemble Bachata in anyway. Bachata and it is from Dominican Republic, by Dominicans 🇩🇴.

- Did they, Ataca y Alemana, start teaching Bachata because of the business income opportunities it ACCIDENTALLY brought them
- Or was it because of an inherent passion to share Bachata and its Dominican culture with the world?

For a dance to be considered Bachata, it MUST be at leadt 80+% Bachata (basics) and the rest is other related dance styling / decoration options that still match the cultural rhythm and essence of Bachata, which is an Afro-based /Afro-Latino dance from Dominican Republic.

This is an old and first video of Ataca y Alemana dancing Bachata. This is a Bachata is Bachata edited clip of their debut video that went viral on YouTube, recorded in early 2008, in the USA 🇺🇸, two weeks after they had become dance partners. This was their partnership announcement dance and the rest is history....
