For 26 years, the ECO-meet competition has been bringing Kansas students out of the classroom and into the great outdoors!

In a October, the tradition continued at Wilson Lake, where middle and high school students from eight counties put their ecological knowledge to the ultimate test.

We are incredibly proud to provide the facilities, land, and staff support at Wilson Lake to help connect today’s youth with conservation professionals.

Powering the Heartland from Stockton Lake!

This #EnergyActionMonth, we are proud to showcase Stockton Dam!

During generation, the dam releases water downriver, working in partnership with the Southwestern Power Administration to provide clean, reliable hydropower that secures local infrastructure and ensures continuity of operations against emerging challenges.

✂️ IT’S OFFICIAL: Turkey Creek Flood Risk Management Project is complete!

Today, leaders from our district stood alongside our non-federal sponsors—the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County / Kansas City, Kansas—to cut the ribbon on decades of engineering and dedication.

For decades, flash flooding along Turkey Creek devastated neighborhoods and shuttered businesses along Southwest Boulevard. Today, Through partnership that flood risk has been substantially mitigated.

Projects like Turkey Creek demonstrate what is possible when federal, state, and municipal partners unite behind community safety.

Thank you to the engineers, contractors, local officials, and most importantly the business owners and residents whose patience and support brought this vision to life.

Before we cut the ribbon today, we want to look back at the history that made this project vital to our region's success.

Decades of study, design, heavy excavation, and regional teamwork come together today as leaders from our district join with the local leaders the City of Kansas City, Missouri, and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County / KCK to cut the ribbon on transformed flood protection along Turkey Creek.

For generations, businesses and residents along Southwest Boulevard lived under the constant threat of devastating flash floods like those seen in 1977, 1993, and 1998.

Through partnership that flood risk has been substantially mitigated.

A huge thank you to the dedicated federal, state, and city teams, contractors, and the local property and business owners whose patience and advocacy made this historic project possible.

Owls depend on healthy habitats for food, shelter and nesting. Through environmental stewardship and natural resource management at our lake projects, the Kansas City District helps support the lands and waters that wildlife depends on.

From wetlands and grasslands to forests and shorelines, protecting habitat benefits owls and the many other species that call these areas home.
Each owl has adaptations that help it thrive in its environment.

#ThrowbackThursday, Ever heard of a "revetted bank"? 🔍🚢

In this photo taken on May 27, 1909, the steam tenders Thetis, Sabrina, and Arethusa sit anchored along a freshly revetted bank of the Missouri River in Kansas City.

What was revetment work?
To prevent the river from eroding valuable farmland and rail corridors, workers wove massive mattresses out of willow brush, weighed them down with thousands of tons of rock ("riprap"), and lined the shoreline to hold the riverbank in place.

A project that transcends boundaries. 🌎

Today is #WorldArchitectureDay! To celebrate, we are highlighting a structure that perfectly blends local, natural materials with world-class engineering.

The Kansas City District planned, designed, and oversaw construction of Mexico’s new National School of Civil Protection, which will train professionals in disaster risk management across Mexico City, the country, and the region.

Built with lava rock from Popocatépetl, one of the most active volcanoes on the continent looming at the outskirts of the city, this state-of-the-art facility stands as a lasting symbol of preparedness and our enduring partnership with U.S. Northern Command because disasters do not stop at a line on a map.

At #FortLeonardWood, newly commissioned engineer officers in the Engineer Basic Officer Leadership Course (EBOLC) are getting a masterclass in collaboration.

Capt. Leandra Ramos, serving in a dual role with the 554th Engineer Battalion and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has enhanced the curriculum by bringing #USACE civilians into the classroom.

This initiative provides a broader perspective on the vital missions of USACE, bridging the gap between military and civilian engineering worlds.

As Capt. Ramos says, "Civilians are the backbone of USACE." This collaboration ensures our future leaders understand the full spectrum of the Army's engineering capabilities.
