🇵🇱 Twelve Sand Sharks found out what it's like to be a medical school student in Poland, through a USCB study abroad program this month at Poznan University of Medical Sciences (PUMS). The USCB students got hands-on practice in medical simulation at a state-of-the-art simulation center, examined "patients" in a dental lab, scrubbed into an operating room; secured a trauma scene, examined samples in a molecular biology lab, and more.🩺 Students Brittney Aquino, Kaymar Griffin, and Savanna Fumbi are featured here.PUMS sponsors this program to introduce U.S. students to the university's English-language medical school.#biomedicalsciences #globaleducation #studyabroad by @uscbeaufort

🐊🦈 One day it's helping to tag sharks. The next day it's playing games with kids. Sand Shark Brianna Margioni's summer internship at Oldfield Outfitters Center keeps her running!Brianna wrote: "I am caring for animals in the nature center such as alligators, terrapins, turtles, snakes, and fresh and saltwater fish. We also host marine ecology-focused summer camps for kids doing crabbing, shark fishing, and nature hikes. Head naturalist Leanna McMillan and I participated in terrapin sampling. The Outfitter's Center also runs kayak and paddleboard tours and fishing charters (where we tag sharks for NOAA!)."Hands-on experiences like these are why our Sand Sharks graduate ready to dive into exciting careers — and have fun on the way. 🌊💙📸 Who's next? USCB students, DM your summer internship pics and a description or send to Communications@USCB.edu! #Internship #ExperientialLearning by @uscbeaufort

🐬 The USCB Sea Turtle patrol had a big day on Friday! On Pritchards, the island's first loggerhead hatchlings of the season emerged and made their way to the ocean. And on Saint Phillips Island, community volunteer Robert Morris and USCB student Mary Claire Garland helped rescue a dolphin stranded on a tidal sandbar. The juvenile female, approximately 5 ft long, may have been strand-feeding just before the tide reached its lowest point. She was rescued in time thanks to the coordinated efforts of everyone involved and safely returned to the water. All work was conducted under the MMHSRP authorization managed by the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network. Tuck from @buildinganglers and a client first found the stranded dolphin and called the organization's hotline. The USCB team was nearby and came to help.Staff from the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network talked the rescuers through the process to use a beach towel to slowly walk the dolphin back out to the water and release her. It’s illegal to handle marine mammals without authorization. Anyone who encounters a distressed animal should call 800.922.5431. @lowcountry.marine.mammals by @uscbeaufort
