US Marine Corps M4A2 Sherman Tank Crewman, 4th Tank Battalion, Operation Detachment. Second picture is a screenshot of a video @the_gyrenes_eye posted of Marine Tankers on Iwo. Note the personalized writing on the M38 helmet and the “cage” type armor on the hatches. The cage armor was intended to prevent enemy troops from placing mines or other explosives directly onto the tank’s hatches. taken in Iwo Jima, Japan by @usmcww2

Original WW2 late war Japanese army canteen. I’ve seen at least one picture of a Marine carrying one of these but I’m sure there’s more photos out there. This one has a piece of cloth melted into the rubber stopper that is tied to the carrier. The canteen itself is aluminum and smells absolutely awful as soon as it gets wet despite efforts to clean it. It also has unknown writing painted on with blue paint. taken in Shuri Castle, Naha, Okinawa, Japan by @usmcww2

Original WW2 Jungle First Aid kit. I picked this pouch up a few months ago in a local junk store. I was killing time waiting to pick up a pizza and walked in, surprising the owner who was in the middle of taking a rip off a meff pipe. Kinda blew my mind and as I turned to walk out, I saw this pouch in a display case and re-engaged. I haggled him down to $30, knowing he has a habit to feed.
Fine Files Bros. 1945 dated pouch packed with Mercurochrome bottle (topical antiseptic)
Unopened Halazone bottle (water purification pills)
Carlisle bandage, gauze compress, and a bunch of original band-aids. Mad props if you can tell me everything that’s missing without looking it up. taken in Saipan, Mariana Islands, USA by @usmcww2

I snaked another cross-flap canteen a few weeks ago from eBay for sixty bucks. The name inside the flap is too faded for me to make out, but it came with an E.A. Co. 1943 cup and an aluminum A.G.M. Co. 1945 welded aluminum canteen. The last picture is the whole canteen gang. taken in Kwajalein Atoll, RMI by @usmcww2

WW2 Marine Corps huck towel. These are surprisingly pretty hard to find and there’s a few different variants. This one is named but I haven’t looked him up yet. Apparently a company did make repro’s of these around 20 years ago so they’re not all original. taken in Shuri Castle, Naha, Okinawa, Japan by @usmcww2

War trophy on display. I hope you guys enjoyed these uniform posts. Putting all this stuff on and taking the photos was fun but also a big undertaking with little kids and a full time job. Big shout-out to my wife for taking and editing the pictures for me. If she didn’t know what a WW2 freak I am, she definitely does now. taken in Shuri Castle, Naha, Okinawa, Japan by @usmcww2

Tarawa -11/22/43, day three. Marines consolidated their positions on Red beaches 1 and 2, and 2nd Tank Battalion came ashore on Green 1. By the late afternoon, the Marines had pushed the Japanese defenders to the east side of the island, and established a continuous line along the eastern edge of the airstrip. They dug in and waited for the attack that night.
The kit worn in these photos is weighed down by 176 rounds of live .30-06 ammunition in 8 round en-bloc clips. Each bandolier holds 6 clips, and the original M1923 cartridge belt holds 10 clips. You definitely feel the weight and I couldn’t imagine what it was like for the Marines trying to swim ashore. I hope you guys enjoyed these posts, more to follow so stay tuned. by @usmcww2
