🎾🌟 Norwalk, CT’s Naomi Wachira was among 24 young leaders from across the country selected by the USTA Foundation to take part in the 2026 Career Excellence Week and Excellence Cup, presented by American Express, held in New York City during the US Open.

Naomi, a student at Grassroots Tennis and Education, is currently ranked No. 10 in New England in the Girls’ 18s division. During the week, she explored career opportunities, connected with professionals and competed on the courts.

As part of the experience, students visited companies and organizations across New York City, participated in career panels and networking opportunities, completed a community service project and attended the US Open women’s semifinals. They also competed in the AMEX Excellence Cup on the tournament courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

The week gave these young leaders a unique opportunity to explore what’s possible beyond the tennis court while building connections and gaining experiences they can carry with them into their futures.

Congratulations, Naomi 👏🎾 by @ustanewengland

✂️🎾 An exciting evening at the YMCA Allard Center of Goffstown (NH) as the community came together to cut the ribbon on four beautiful new tennis courts! 🎉

This incredible project was made possible through more than $50,000 in combined support from YMCA members, donors and community supporters, including a $14,850 USTA Tennis Venue Services Grant. These investments helped fund court resurfacing, new nets, benches, divider curtains and expanded opportunities for tennis programming at the Y.

Members of both the YMCA and USTA communities came together to celebrate this milestone at one of New Hampshire’s most active tennis facilities, which regularly hosts USTA League and junior programs.

We’re proud to support organizations like the YMCA Allard Center that are creating more opportunities to play, growing the game and strengthening tennis communities across New England 💚🎾 by @ustanewengland

🎾 Dartmouth’s Jesse Gotlib is using his experience as a coach and educator to help bring tennis to more kids throughout Southeastern Massachusetts!

🏆 A USTA Junior Team Tennis coach for the past 10 years, Jesse has led multiple teams to New England Sectionals. He spent his first five summers coaching at Sippican Racquet Club, where he served as Junior Director. Since then, he has continued growing the game through his own year-round, beginner-focused program, Gotlib Tennis, while working as a special education math teacher.

This spring, Jesse received a USTA New England Micro-Grant to launch his Play Tennis Kit project, helping schools and community organizations introduce tennis to kids with ready-to-use equipment and instructional materials. Each kit, valued at approximately $400, includes 12 junior racquets, foam balls, a portable mini net and activities to help staff introduce the sport, even without a traditional court.

Jesse has now delivered eight kits, giving each organization equipment it can use again and again to introduce more kids to the sport and create opportunities for them to learn, grow and fall in love with tennis ❤️🎾

👏 Thank you, Jesse, for going above and beyond to grow the game and make tennis more accessible in your community!

On Saturday, USTA New Hampshire celebrated two of the state’s most accomplished tennis figures, posthumously inducting Frank Jones Sulloway and Harvey L. Smith Jr. into their Hall of Fame during a ceremony at Hampshire Hills Athletic Club.

Sulloway was presented by Ken Moulton and Jeff Siegel, while Smith was presented by Ken Moulton and Andy Smith.

A New Hampshire native, Sulloway was one of the Granite State’s earliest players to compete at the highest levels of American tennis. He reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. National Championships, the forerunner of today’s US Open, in 1908 and made the third round four other times. His impact on New Hampshire tennis extended well beyond his playing career. In 1912, he helped found the Bow Brook Club in Concord, which remains a leading racquet-sports institution more than a century later.

Smith built one of the most remarkable high school coaching legacies in the country during his 30 years leading the Concord High School boys’ tennis program. His teams went 527–30 and won a New Hampshire-record 14 state championships, while Smith was named New Hampshire Coach of the Year 16 times. In 1988, after a 112-match winning streak, he was named National High School Tennis Coach of the Year.

USTA New Hampshire President Tim McKean opened the ceremony, which also included recognition of Lisa Linder as the 2026 USTA New Hampshire League Captain of the Year.

It was a special day for USTA New Hampshire and the state’s tennis community to celebrate two true New Hampshire tennis legends and honor the lasting impact they made on the sport, their communities and generations of players! by @ustanewengland

🎉🎾 Happy National Coaches Day! Today, we’re celebrating the men and women who inspire us to work harder and do our best both on and off the court 💪

One of the best things about coaching is that there’s no one way to do it. Whether it’s your livelihood or one of your many hobbies, you’re making a difference and helping grow the game.

Coaches are at the heart of tennis in New England, and we’re incredibly grateful for everything they do to support players and our sport.

Thank you, coaches ❤️🎾 by @ustanewengland

🇨🇴🎾 Originally from Colombia, Santiago “Santi” Pérez moved to New England in 2016 and has built a career around tennis and helping young players take their game to the next level.

Santi got his first taste of coaching by helping his father, a tennis coach in Colombia. After moving to the U.S., he continued that path as an assistant and hitting partner at Manchester Athletic Club, where he also trained full time and competed under Francisco Montoya.

After playing college tennis at Xavier University of Louisiana and Columbus State University in Georgia, Santi’s tennis journey has come full circle. Today, he’s a full-time coach with Montoya Tennis, working with some of the top junior players in New England.

With his positive energy, hard work and ability to connect with his players, Santi has become a valuable mentor both on and off the court 💪

In July, he received our 2026 Coaching Professional of the Year - Junior Category at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport 🏆

Keep up the great work, Santi 👏
