Do you want to learn more about how our union operates? Ever feel like the rules are hard to understand? Come to the NextGen Committee’s Policy Party to explore Local 1998’s governing documents with friends, refreshments, and a heaping side of fun. Navigate the Constitution, By-Laws and Elections Manual with the help of your peers, find the answers to a document “scavenger hunt”, and leave with a better understanding of USW governance – plus prizes.

Join us on Tuesday September 29, from 5:30 to 8pm. Beverages and a light dinner will be provided. There will be a 20-minute access break starting at 6:30.

Join USW in weekly canvassing for the 2026 Toronto municipal elections! These sessions will occur weekly on Thursdays, starting on Thu, Sep 17 at 5:30pm. The first meet-up will be at Davisville subway station, where we will be canvassing for Olivia Chow.

Every week following the first session, we will alternate between canvassing for a progressive Toronto councilor candidate and canvassing for Olivia Chow.

Free Admission to the CNE!
USW1998 members and their families who participate in the Labour Day Parade with the USW contingent will receive free entrance to the CNE on September 7, 2026.

Location: 25 Cecil Street - Steelworkers Hall
8:30 am Jacket distribution *
9:30 am Leave for the parade

*USW jackets will be handed out on Sept 7, 2026, at the Union Hall from 8:30 am - 9:30 am only. No jackets will be given out after 9:30 am. Members will meet at the Union Hall and then march to the CNE along with other unions. Members and their families will also receive free entrance to the CNE and can return by Shuttle bus. by @uswlocal1998

STAFF APPOINTED UNIT: We did it! Our online Strike Mandate Vote closed last night, and we had a record breaking 75.1% voter turnout, and 96% yes vote. We are sending a message to the University: we are united, we are strong, and we expect improvements to our collective agreement! And it is because of YOU - every member who cast a ballot, who reminded colleagues, who engaged other members - YOU are our power.

Does this mean we are going on strike? This vote was NOT a vote to go on strike, BUT is a strategic negotiating tool used to pressure the employer to bargain a fair collective agreement.
