Reducing wildfire risk and restoring native habitat starts with managing invasive grasses. 🌾🔥

The Bureau of Land Management and @uswfs are conducting aerial herbicide treatments across about 10,900 acres in the Book Cliffs of Uintah County, Utah, helping native plants recover in key habitat for deer, elk, pronghorn, and greater sage-grouse.

The South East region trail crew for the State of Utah spent the week beautifying and improving a popular area in the Moab Field Office. Visitors drive to Lone Rock to see Picture Frame Arch, to dispersed camp, or just stop by while adventuring on the challenging Behind The Rocks 4-wheel drive route. The pipe and cable fencing pictured replaced outdated range fencing that had fallen into a state of disrepair. This new, less visually obtrusive fencing will continue to clarify the route for drivers, while protecting the sensitive desert plants that add to the attractiveness of this area. We are so grateful for our partnership with the State of Utah and thank the trail crew for all their hard work! Protecting the Sulphur Wild Horse Herd. Drought and overpopulation have pushed the Sulphur wild horse herd in remote parts of western Utah beyond what the land can support. With food and water declining as the population grows, wild horses are increasingly at risk. Today, the BLM began humane gather operations to protect the herd’s and land's health and restore balance on the range.
Every step of the operation follows strict humane‑care standards under the BLM’s Comprehensive Animal Welfare Program. Horses gathered from the range will receive veterinary evaluations, vaccinations, and attentive care before becoming available for adoption or placement in responsible homes.
When populations are balanced with the available food and water, healthy horses and healthy rangelands can persist for generations to come. by @utahpubliclands

There's no better way to celebrate 50 years of FLPMA than by signing a land conveyance!

Christina Price, Acting State Director for BLM Utah, today signed a patent conveying over 155 acres to Ferron City, Utah, under the Federal Land Policy and Management Act (FLPMA). The city has leased the land since 1985, and this conveyance ensures the community can continue enjoying this recreation opportunity for generations to come.

Monsoon season brings a real hazard on Utah's public lands: flash floods. Heavy rain doesn't have to fall where you're standing for a wash or canyon to flood fast, and desert soils shed water quickly instead of soaking it in.

If you encounter flooding or rain, seek higher ground right away. Washed out roads, debris, and standing water can appear with little warning, and a dry wash can fill before you make it back across. Slot canyons are especially dangerous in these conditions. Never attempt to cross floodwaters on foot or in a vehicle, and plan ahead so you're not caught needing a rescue.

Check the weather for your specific destination before you go, and stay alert to changing conditions once you're out there.

In an emergency, call 911.

The BLM is accepting public comments for a proposed 600kV transmission line that will cross approximately 330 miles of federal, state and private land from Millard County, Utah, to Clark County, Nevada.
This project supports efforts to streamline permitting processes to reduce timelines for critical energy infrastructure, fight the national energy emergency, and strengthen the performance and resilience of the electric grid.
The BLM will host two virtual public meetings to provide more information about the project. To attend, please pre-register through the project webpage by going to eplanning.blm.gov, searching for “Silver Rock Transmission line” in the Site Search box, and following instructions to register on the site page. Registrants will receive an email with a link and phone number to join the meeting(s). by @utahpubliclands

Utah's seeing an active stretch of storms right now. Flooding has been reported at the Bonneville Salt Flats* and near Vernal in the McCoy Flats recreation area, on top of @nws Salt Lake City issuing multiple Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and Flash Flood Warnings across southern Utah. Hard-hit areas include Zion National Park, Kane County (Paria River, Buckskin Gulch), Capitol Reef, and the San Rafael Swell. We even saw a destructive storm in central Utah over the weekend that produced widespread hail damage.

If you have plans for this upcoming holiday weekend, here are a few tips to help you prepare:
💻Check NWS Salt Lake City (weather.gov/slc) for active watches/warnings in your specific area
📡Use a real-time radar app if you're camping, hiking, or in slot canyons
📝Sign up for county emergency alerts if traveling to southern Utah (flash flood country)
↩️ Have a backup plan for outdoor plans. Thunderstorms here can spin up fast in the afternoon!

Stay safe out there, Utah. 🌩️

*The Salt Flats Racing Association has cancelled their World of Speed event due to flooding from rainstorms at the Salt Flats.
