Congratulations to our very own Ms. Susan Lemond (far right) for graduating from the Administrative Professionals Acadedmy this month!

Ms. Susan is often the first face you see in the Accounting, Economics, and Finance office, and she keeps everything running like a well-oiled machine. From helping students to managing her student workers to assisting faculty, Ms. Susan does it all!

Participants in the Administrative
Professionals Academy met one day a month at the Institute for Public Service building in Nashville. The Administrative Professionals Academy is sponsored by the Institute for Public Service, and it is a leadership development program created especially for administrative staff. APA empowers administrative professionals to grow personally and professionally. Participants increase their skills by completing individual projects, group projects, and receiving targeted course instruction. A major benefit of this program is networking with other professionals from government, university and business settings. All courses and projects are designed to identify and cultivate a person’s individual leadership style.

Way to go Ms. Susan!

🎄Merry Christmas Skyhawks🎄
________

A little Christmas fun was had by all, and don’t worry, we had the Tylenol and Bengay on standby after filming this video. No administrators or direct reports were harmed in the making of this Christmas magic. 😂

So many blessings to celebrate, both in the CBGA and at UTM! We hope you all have a wonderful holiday.

🎄Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree🎄
____________

The students AND the faculty sure got creative with their excuses as the holiday season approached…😂

But in all seriousness, Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes are big business this time of year! Did you know…

🎄Little Debbie Christmas Tree cakes have been a holiday snack favorite for forty years!

🎄If you lined up all the cartons of vanilla, chocolate, and red velvet Christmas Tree Cakes sold each year, they’d stretch from Memphis to Mountain City six times!

🎄American shoppers purchase more than 2,000 Little Debbie products per minute.

From the perfectly piped frosting garlands to those tiny sugar sprinkles, each one is a little edible tradition. This year marks the 40th anniversary celebration, complete with special packaging!

What else is fun about Christmas Tree Cakes? Making them a success involves all business majors offered in the CBGA! Accounting, economics, finance, management, marketing, and information systems all play a major role in producing, branding, marketing, distributing, and profiting from the sales of one truly delicious product.

You could be the next great innovator a company like Little Debbie or McKee Foods, Little Debbie’s parent company, with the skills you learn in the CBGA. Something to think about this holiday season! by @utmartincbga

🧡That’s a Wrap on FMA!🧡
____________
We’re grateful to Jim Wingett, CBGA Advisory Board Vice-Chair and Wolf River Capital owner, and Bob Fockler, President of the Community Foundation, for taking time out of their schedules to speak with our finance students at UT Martin for our last FMA meeting of the semester!

Our students gained valuable insights into real-world career pathways, investment banking, non-profit finance, industry trends, and the skills needed to excel in the field. Both Jim and Bob shared their extensive experience and offered practical guidance that will serve our students well as they prepare to enter the workforce. It was also fun to hear stories about how often they have worked together throughout their careers!

The engagement was exceptional—thoughtful questions led to meaningful discussions about the evolving landscape of finance and community investment.

We truly appreciate these industry leaders investing in the next generation of Skyhawks! AND, just another example of how #UTMMeansBusiness!

🧡Breaking News🧡
_____________

Local college students have entered their annual hibernation phase. Like bears, they will not be seen until mid-January. Unlike bears, their caves are filled with leftover ramen, unwashed laundry, and an alarming number of streaming service tabs. Scientists report they emerge only for snacks and bathroom breaks. Do not disturb. 🐻💤

See you soon, Skyhawks!

🧡Just Elfin’ Around🧡
_____________

Just channeling the spirit of Buddy the Elf in the CBGA today! Our students Sophie Wilson and Rebecca Worley went full elf-mode in the kitchen, whipping up a special spaghetti surprise for Dean Mehlhorn. Sweet syrup, chocolate, candy, marshmallows, and ALL the toppings – because the four main food groups are candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup, right?

We hope you enjoy our students’ and the dean’s unmatched holiday spirits as they devour Buddy the Elf’s special dish! As for the kitchen clean-up…well, that’s a problem for later. 😂

🧡Banker’s Lunch🧡
_________
Earlier this semester, John Clark (Dunagan Banking Chair) hosted a banker’s lunch in the Champions Club. Bankers from across Tennessee attended to learn more about the keynote topic - technology in banking! Leading technology consultant Jimmy Sawyers addressed the group about innovations and challenges in banking technology, and he also spoke with a student group following the lunch. It was a great day to have business leaders together to collaborate!

We are so thankful to Mr. Clark for organizing this event, and to Chancellor Freeman, Jimmy Sawyers, Dr. Mehlhorn (Interim CBGA Dean), and Jim Wingett (CBGA Advisory Board Vice-Chair) for attending. And of course - thanks to our bankers AND students for attending!

🧡Graduation🧡
_____________

To our College of Business graduating seniors—watching you walk across that stage will be one of our proudest moments.

You came to us with dreams, and you’re leaving as the leaders we always knew you could be. We’ve watched you grow, stumble, rise again, and ultimately soar. Every late night, every challenge overcome, every moment of doubt turned into determination—we saw it all, and our hearts are full.

Thank you for trusting us with your education and your future. Thank you for the passion, the questions, and the moments that reminded us why we do what we do. You’ve made us better, and we’ll carry you in our hearts always.

You’ll always be family. Now go show the world what we already know—you’re extraordinary. 🧡💙
