Rest in peace @rpaoloriggio
Roberto was a leader in the world music community in Austin, a mentor to me, and a brother to all.

I met Roberto as a teen, and when I was 20 years old he offered me the opportunity to choreograph a fusion Indian/Persian dance to a song composed and performed by Atash. This was my first time to professionally choreograph a dance.

Roberto had a knack for seeing artistic potential in people and gently nurturing it by providing them a space to practice their art. Little did I know that I would continue to make art for the next 2 decades with the support of an artistic community that had been cultivated by Roberto himself.

In recent years, Roberto continued to encourage me to explore other aspects of artistry like singing, and just a few weeks ago we were speaking of projects we were going to do together.

Everyone I speak to has the same story...everyone was planning to collaborate with Roberto on their next project. May we hold you in our hearts as we continue to make art in the community you helped create for us. Thank you for this legacy, Roberto. ❤️ by @utopiahealingarts

Happy Yalda!

The inspiration for this dance choreography was a love poem credited to Taj al-Saltaneh, a Qajar era female poet, talking about the pain of not seeing the face of her love, "Naadeedeh Rokhat" (Without Seeing Your Face).

One may imagine this to feel like not seeing the sun in the dark winter months, as Persians/Iranians celebrate the longest night of the year, Shab-e Yalda (Winter Solstice).

Yalda teaches us how to live in the duality of dark and light, with the promise that after every dark era there is light.

Behind the scenes of a video shoot for a dance and music project, "Naadeedeh Rokhat" ("Without seeing your face"), inspired by a poem by Qajar era female poet Taj al-Saltaneh, who is said to have written the poem.

A beautiful winter day in Austin at one of our gorgeous outdoor venues, Laguna Gloria.

We are approaching the winter solstice, shab-e yalda, the darkest night of the year.

We celebrate with Persian music and poetry that is over 100 years old, and with dance costumes invoking the essence of pomegranates, a favorite winter fruit. ♥️

Grateful to Nature for teaching us how to live in the duality of light and dark.
