Hurricane Melissa may have hit hard, but Jamaica is standing stronger.

Periods don’t pause for disasters and no woman should face period poverty in a crisis.

Support Uzuri Her’s emergency drive for Jamaica by donating at uzuriher.com 🇯🇲

No donation is too small, we are grateful for all contributions.

Uzuri Her is collecting donations to purchase period products directly from Jamaican suppliers, ensuring support reaches women and girls who need it most.

Stay blessed ❤️

No one should have to rely on makeshift materials like toilet paper to manage their periods. Menstrual products are a basic necessity, yet so many are forced to go without. Let’s fight to end period poverty and ensure everyone has access to proper hygiene.

Over 137,000 children in the UK have missed school due to period poverty, highlighting the urgent need for accessible sanitary products to ensure every child’s right to education.

It seems the rest of the UK need to follow the lead of Scotland who offer free sanitary products in public building and schools.

Is this figure what you expected? by @uzuriher

100 period packs = 10,000 school hours reclaimed! 📚✨

The Impact 👊🏾

When girls miss school due to a lack of access to menstrual products, the long-term impact can be profound.

The knock on effect from missing school for several days include

➡️ Lower academic performance

➡️increased risk of dropping out altogether

➡️limited opportunities for higher education

➡️reduce earning potential, and perpetuate cycles of poverty in her community.

Let’s not forget that when girls miss out on education, they are less likely to develop the skills and knowledge needed to secure stable jobs, making it harder to achieve financial independence.

Beyond the individual, the effects ripple across societies, contributing to gender inequality and economic disparities.

Addressing period poverty is more than just providing hygiene products; it’s about creating an environment where girls can reach their full potential and contribute meaningfully to their communities. By ensuring that girls stay in school, we open the doors to a future where women can thrive, lead, and uplift generations to come.

Reusable period pads are a total game-changer—eco-friendly, budget-saving, and super comfy. They cut down on waste, keep plastic out of landfills, and are gentle on your skin. Plus, you just wash and reuse, so no more running to the store last minute!

It’s a win for you and the planet 🌍

That is why UZURI chose to donate reusable pads 🩷

Ok so why do we have a period?

The menstrual cycle is basically your body’s way of getting ready for pregnancy each month, and it’s all thanks to two key hormones: estrogen and progesterone.

Think of estrogen as the hormone that builds things up — it helps thicken the uterine lining to prepare a cozy environment for a potential pregnancy.

Then, ovulation happens around the middle of your cycle, when an egg is released, making it the prime time for fertilization.

After ovulation, progesterone steps in. Its job is to keep the uterine lining intact and ready in case the egg gets fertilised.

If pregnancy doesn’t happen, both hormone levels drop, and that’s when your period starts, shedding the lining.

There u have it periods are natural and women should not have to chose between period products and food.
