👟👟✨ Was lucky enough to bring this sweet girl along for my run today. Needless to say, after 8 miles of puddly, slippery, lakeside trails, we’re both feeling sleepy. Happy, but sleepy.

Old stomping grounds, new approach. Trail running might be my new obsession.

Slide 1: Oh my gosh, the woods are gorgeous this morning!
Slide 2: Chanting makes it better, right?
Slide 3: I’m proud of my girl, and she’s happy to be done.

“If you’re waiting for a sign, this is it.”

That was the motto for the New Year with Nike run that @fleetfeetnashville and @nikerunning hosted yesterday.

To quote @coachbennett from Nike Run Club, “This is about running. This is not about running.”

Here’s to running wild this year, friends! by @v.running.wild

GOAL MET: HIGHLIGHT REEL UNLOCKED

I’ve been running for “fun” since I was 15. I remember the day it clicked. We were living in Indonesia, and I started off on a 1 mile run as part of a PE assignment. But it didn’t end as a PE assignment… Somewhere along the way I hit a groove, and suddenly running just made sense. Running hasn’t always been fun, but it’s always been worth it—it’s oftentimes exactly what I need to either start or end my day well.

What’s made running even more worthwhile over the years are the miles I’ve gotten to share with other runners, especially my dad and brother. My dad is a lifelong runner, and when I moved back to Florida after college, he and I started running together with a goal to run a 10K before I moved the following year. And we met our goal! We ran that 10K together and crossed the finish line hand-in-hand, and I was so PROUD of myself for doing what felt like such a hard thing.

When we finished that 10K, my dad and I agreed that our next goal was to run a half marathon. It took some time—you know what they say about the best laid plans—but last year, finally, I called my dad and asked if he was ready to run that half we’d talked about years before. He said, “Let’s do it.” And just like that, we started training again (him in FL, me in TN), picked a race, booked an Airbnb, and ran that half marathon. And we crossed the finish line again, hand in hand, this time with the addition of my brother. It’s a memory I won’t soon forget.

I’m so PROUD of myself, of us, of the miles we tracked, of the obstacles and injuries we overcame… and I’m EXCITED for the miles and runs that lay ahead. I’ve been calling this race “my first half marathon” because I know there will be more.

Thank you to everyone who has cheered me on in this journey. The most honorable mention goes out to @urrithames_90sup who literally rearranged his schedule on certain days to ensure I could get out and run and was there to encourage me every step of the way. @madmike4realz also gets a shoutout for being an awesome brother, a dependable running buddy and the best pacer I’ve run with. Thank you both!
