My diploma project "Ammentu" on view at @dieangewandte festival

The multimedia installation explores the landscapes of Sardinia, focusing on the relationships between human intervention, memory and the environment. Through analogue photography and 16mm film, the project documents the island’s shifting geography, focusing on the tension between its historical mining regions and modern scientific infrastructures. Specific sites such as the Sulcis-Iglesiente region, with its abandoned mining facilities, Carbonia, a workers town built during the fascist era, and Sos Ettanos, a former mine now repurposed for quantum physics research and proposed as the future site of Europe’s largest telescope (the Einstein Telescope)- form the heart of the exploration.

The photographs, altered by immersion in metalliferous soil, capture this dialogue between past and present.

A split-screen film ("Ammentu" - Trailer), paired with a soundscape of field recordings and a voice-over text further develop the connection between the visual and auditory elements of the stories stored in the environment.

"Ammentu" translates to memory in the local Sardo language.

My first book 'ROYGBIV' has arrived - so excited to finally get this out into the world.

“ROYGBIV is a look back with the inner eye, with human perception as the central tool. Perhaps with the aim of remembering what it was like when the world seemed forever right, especially in its fleeting transience.” – Lina Morawetz

The long-term photographic project (2016-2022) is the result of the ongoing recording of a feeling: the search for the personal traces of time. The series deals with growing up and rediscovering the place you left behind. It attempts to decipher what it means to feel connected and at the same time increasingly distanced from the formative period of growing up. The personal bond is woven from a collection of memories and hopes, yet the visual surface remains seemingly unchanged. ROYGBIV explores this ambivalent connection to the landscapes and personalities that have become part of the reality of life in the Salzburg region. Photography is used to describe the imagined world of memory and to record how this idea changes with each visit.

The title is an acronym for the colors of the rainbow, an optical phenomenon that has repeatedly appeared in the landscapes over the many summers. The colors of the arc depend on the position of the viewer. The composition changes with every step.

Selection from a newly developed work during my stay @residenza_lumnezia - examining the landscape of Val Lumnezia through a series of continuous photographs encompassing the valleys length. The analogue images were developed with locally foraged pine needles as chemical agent. More to come...

Special thanks for the help and assistance:

Impressions of @residenza_lumnezia - I spent the the last weeks in the beautiful Val Lumnezia, experimenting with new techniques and exploring how a landscape and its local architecture can become an active part of image making - thank you to all the beautiful people who made this month so incredibly special!
