VA[A]DS x Visual Communication

The “VA[A]DS Students ON THE EDGE of Creativity” exhibition is a collaborative project between the @vaads.freeuni and @adblackseafestival, presented by the @free_university_georgia and @smartsoftgaming,

curated by @razmadzekoko and myself.

Make sure to stop by and check out amazing works of @datikopadze, @gvantsabala, @lukerpukk, and @japurrrrrr during the curated tour on September 11 at 11AM, taking place at the Brands’ Space at Sheraton Batumi.

"✨ It's generally agreed upon that design, as a concept, lives ON THE EDGE of creativity and function... But here's the million-dollar question: would design even exist, if there was no brief?

The "VA[A]DS students ON THE EDGE of Creativity" exhibition was created to answer this very inquiry. Presented to you by Free University of Tbilisi and Smartsoft, this part of the ABS2026 program is a collection of works that were created without any kind of a traditional brief. Everything - from idea to concept and medium - was made up by the authors themselves, to see whether they could walk the thin line between creativity and solving specific problems.

And the best part is that you'll have the chance to sea it all for yourselves - on September 11, during the curated tour that will take place at the brands' space in Sheraton. Make sure you're there to check out these amazing works by Dati Kopadze, Gvantsa Balashvili, Luka Saakashvili, and Japara 🤘" by @vaads.freeuni

Students were asked to return to their homes—not only as structures, but also as memories. They explored the subtle layers embedded in their living spaces through inhabitation and daily life. The task was to identify forms and signs of home that quietly shape existence.

The project has two-parts:

From Home

Physical Home – The anatomy of their living environment: tectonic structure, details, historical layers. The home is read as a body, with its own arrangement, weight, and history.

Mental Home – The emotional landscape: memories, imagination, childhood episodes, and spatial consciousness. Rooms are not dimensions or functions, but resonant chambers of experience.

What transforms ordinary space into the sacred? By breaking the connection with a specific time, students search for enduring values within their homes. In this way, their works become self-referential, based on internal experience. Memory fragments discovered through physical and phenomenological research coalesce into reconstructed images. The material becomes a kind of motivation, to be shared with others.

To Home

One student’s archived material, a spatial portrait, is given to another. The second student constructs a reimagined model of the first student’s home.

The process becomes a path of double cognition. The student who explores his own home learns to see and express his own inner space. And the one who creates the idea of a new home based on this research explores the inner world of the other—a spatial sensitivity and perception. The person’s inner home continues to exist in the imagination of others—albeit in a new form, in new materials.

The works presented in this exhibition are not just building projects. They are attempts at a homecoming—an attempt to understand how spaces live within a person and how a person continues to rebuild it, even when they leave their physical house behind.
