Grieving flowers… an attempt at a visual representation of grief.
By asking people to choose a song that sounds like grief to them, I further understood how different grief can feel for everyone. Grief is a complex feeling. The feeling each of these songs gave me is represented by each portrait.

Huipil de Cochinilla

Traditional Mexican blouse, hand sewn, embroidered and dyed with cochineal, an ancestral bug used since pre hispanic Mexico. This piece is meant to showcase the range of color that comes from cochineal, as well as the traditional shape of the Huipil with a twist. The embroidery represents Zapotec motifs for butterflies, a symbol of transformation.

media: cochineal on muslin, cochineal on silk embroidery thread.

‘Breaking Through’ (winter 2024)
My first ever project for a fibers class… #scadfibersfeature
For FIBR 160 we were challenged to create a 25 swatch collection based on five objects.
I based this on objects that reminded me of home and family.
I was able to explore so many techniques such a block printing, screen printing, embroidery, pattern repetition, ink, watercolor, and so much more.
These are some of my favorite swatches 🩷
