We welcomed @valdezassembly to AAFSC’s office in Queens for a meaningful conversation about AAFSC’s anti-violence and mental health programs, and the needs of our community in the 37th district and beyond. We talked about how AAFSC believes in listening to our community members, meeting them where they are, and empowering them to use their voices. Spent a beautiful afternoon with Team Emily Gallagher, Newtown Creek Alliance and Riverkeeper this week. Their efforts to restore this waterway through projects that center native plants, community engagement and climate resiliency are a model for the revitalization of watershed communities across the state. I’m committed to ensuring the revival of Newtown Creek is prioritized and properly funded at all levels of government. by @valdezassembly

“This technology should be used to make our lives better. It should be used to shorten our working hours. It should be used to make our productivity actually pay us more. It should be used to tackle the real emergencies that we are facing right now, like climate change.

New York City is facing dangerously hot weather this week as a heat dome settles over the region. Temperatures are expected to climb into the 100s, with the heat index reaching as high as 110°F in some areas.

Extreme heat is the deadliest type of weather event in NYC, so now is the time to prepare and check in on neighbors, friends, and family who may be vulnerable. People without air conditioning, older adults, people with chronic health conditions, and people who work outside are most at risk.

To stay safe, spend time in a cool place. If you don’t have air conditioning, find a place to visit, including a cooling center.

Call 311 or visit on.nyc.gov/coolingcenters to find a cooling center nearby.

Esta semana, la ciudad de Nueva York se enfrenta a un calor peligroso debido a un domo de calor que se ha instalado sobre la región. Thank you Sunnyside for coming out this weekend to recycle with us! ♻️📺💻

Dozens of residents joined us to safely dispose of used electronics and textiles. We collected multiple television sets, laptops and mountains of old clothing. Safe disposal of electronics keeps our garbage collection system safe and our city healthy.
