A key difference in martial arts today is the objective: survival or entertainment. Over time, many styles evolved into entertainment forms like boxing, Muay Thai, kickboxing, and now MMA. These are built for competition, shaped by promoters and media. The goal is to win and entertain. A survival system is different. It trains for one purpose only, surviving real violence. Whether for military, law enforcement, or civilians, the focus stays on realism and resisting full-force attacks.

Jiu-Jitsu is more than a martial art. Rooted in ancient tradition and refined over generations, it offers a path to physical confidence, mental clarity, and emotional balance.
Its philosophy, reflected in the @753Code, reminds us that true strength comes from character, discipline, and purpose.
What makes this journey even more meaningful is sharing it with those we respect and value. As families, training together gives us the rare gift of growing side by side, on the mat and in life. @ivankatrump

Our father instilled in us the values of discipline and loyalty, shaping our path from an early age. Through our dear teacher Helio Gracie, we saw these lessons come to life, his unwavering dedication to the pursuit of mastery, a Spartan way of life, or what the Japanese refer as Bushido. In Japanese, the pursuit of mastery is perfectly captured by the word Shokunin, one who commits fully to their craft, striving for perfection not just in skill but in the way they live. Jujutsu and wellness are more than just practices; they are lifelong objectives guided by these timeless principles.

We are always honored to continue our work with the U.S. military.

Yesterday, we welcomed members of the Florida Army National Guard’s Recruiting and Retention team to Valente Brothers for a session focused on practical, self-defense-oriented combative jiu-jitsu.

It’s a privilege to contribute to the preparation of those who serve our country.

Stand Strong World Tour 🇺🇸 🇰🇷🇯🇵

Valente Brothers and Stand Strong came together in South Korea and Japan to share jiu-jitsu for self-defense, learn from fellow practitioners, and strengthen friendships through training.

From the mats in Seoul to teaching Japan’s 32nd Infantry Regiment, visiting the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and the Kodokan, and sharing knowledge at Axis Jiu-Jitsu Academy, each stop brought new opportunities to teach and learn.

Stand Strong founder Ted Schwartz joined us on the mats throughout the journey, putting into practice the mission he supports.

A look back at a day of training with the Miami Beach Police Department’s SWAT team at Valente Brothers headquarters.

The team conducted tactical entry and hostage-rescue scenarios throughout our facility. We also had the opportunity to teach jiu-jitsu adapted to their responsibilities, including simple, effective arrest and control techniques, as well as defensive tactics for situations in which physical survival becomes the last resort.

For over 30 years, Valente Brothers has maintained a close relationship with South Florida’s law enforcement community. Our approach recognizes that officers face demands that differ from sport jiu-jitsu and civilian self-defense. Their training must account for the responsibility to protect themselves, bring subjects under control, and safeguard everyone involved.

We are proud to contribute to the preparation of those who serve our communities. #valentebrothers #selfdefense #jiujitsu #753code #police by @valentebrothers

The story of Valente Brothers began long before our school was founded. Across generations, members of our family served through diplomacy, public leadership, medicine, industry, philanthropy, and jūjutsu.

Their paths were different, but their principles were the same: discipline, courage, respect, service, and the constant pursuit of excellence.

From José Gurgel Valente’s diplomatic service and Dr. Syllo Valente’s dedication to medicine, to Estácio Coimbra’s public leadership, the Silveira family’s impact on Brazilian industry and the Bangú community, and Grand Master Dr. Pedro Valente Sr.’s lifelong devotion to medicine, family, sports, and jūjutsu, each generation left us more than accomplishments. They left us a responsibility.

Today, we strive to honor that legacy through the way we live, teach, and serve.

Valente Brothers Headquarters was built as a home for jujutsu.

Located in North Miami Beach, our 20,000-square-foot academy includes seven distinct training areas, a rooftop used for outdoor training and jujutsu-specific conditioning, a museum dedicated to the history of the art, and a private library with an extensive collection of antique books, magazines and newspaper archives.

Every part of the academy was created with a purpose: to provide the best possible environment to practice, study and preserve jujutsu.

We are minutes from Aventura, North Miami, Miami Sores, Sunny Isles Beach, Bal Harbour, Surfside, Bay Harbour, and Miami Beach, and conveniently located between MIA and FLL airports.

Welcome to Valente Brothers HQ.

The question is not simply whether you train Jiu-Jitsu. It is what you are training for.

Sport BJJ prepares the practitioner for tournaments, with rules, points and time limits. Self-defense 🇧🇷 Jiu-Jitsu prepares the student for the unpredictable, where there may be strikes, surprise attacks, weapons, hard surfaces and no referee.

That difference shapes the techniques we practice, the habits we develop under pressure and the judgment to avoid, de-escalate or escape whenever possible.

Sparring and resistance are essential. But the objective goes beyond winning on the mat. It is to be prepared to protect yourself and others in real life.
