🇵🇭 What makes this Filipino bakery so special that it’s been around since 1979?! 👀🥖

For Episode 4 of Celebrating Filipino American History Month, we’re checking out Valerio’s 1979 in Mira Mesa to try some of their classic Filipino breads and pastries!

Here’s what I tried:

🥯 Bicho-Bicho – $1.25 🧀 Ube Cheese Roll – $2.25 🍞 Spanish Bread – $1.40 💜 Ube Basket Bread – $1.65

Out of everything I tried, the Ube Cheese Roll was definitely my favorite! 💜🧀 Loved the combination of sweet ube and savory cheese!

There’s something special about Filipino bakeries that have been around for generations. These are the kinds of pastries many of us grew up enjoying, and it’s always great seeing businesses like this keeping our food and traditions alive!

Coffee needs a plus one.

We’ve partnered with our friends at @valerios1979 to make all our Cheese Rolls (pictured), Cassava Cake, Ube Cookies and Ube Pandesal. Available at both locations!

I would frequent their shop as a kid growing up in South Bay and we are so grateful to be working with their team.

The Outer Banks is a special place for my family and I. We try to go every year at the tail end of summer and this trip the timing worked out to finally try @hoy_lechon . For a small strip of land surrounded by water on the East Coast, there are way less Filipino's and definitely less Asian eateries than California. As someone who works for an almost 50 year old Filipino food establishment, it was cool to support someone new holding it down for the culture. If you're visiting OBX or even if you live in Norfolk area and want to make the drive down for some surf and food, it's worth the experience. Just look at my son's face!

Tips: 1. Check their insta to make sure they open before you go. 2. Ya might have to eat in the car cuz it's dang hot outside!
