Another successful Monterey Pre-reunion sponsored by CWA! is in the books. ⁣
⁣
The Grand Prix campground has a section that overlooks turn 6 of the storied Laguna Seca race track, and after a two year hiatus it’s great to get back to my personal top car event of the year. ⁣
⁣
The field seemed a bit lighter than usual, but despite missing some familiar faces, there were some new ones to be seen. ⁣
⁣
My favorite group to watch is the 1966-72 Trans-Am cars as they seem to be the rowdiest, especially when they come in a bit too hot into turn 6. If I had the time and money, I’d want to run right alongside these cowboys. taken in Laguna Seca Campground by @vandelayindustrys

NHRA Sonoma Nationals 2021 aka “The Drags.” After a 25 year hiatus, pops and I finally made it back. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It truly is a unique experience. Sure there are garage built 10 second wheel standing Berettas, Beetles and the like that are no doubt impressive, but admittedly pedestrian. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The real draw, though, are the team supported 4 second nitro methane monsters that seem to defy the laws of physics. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Violent, li-ter-al shirt flapping, noise. Palpable exhaust heat. Nitro-methane exhaust that stings your nose and throat. All this from 100 feet away. So raucous it easily overwhelmed the feeble iPhone mic - suffice to say videos do not do it justice. ⁣⁣
⁣
The future is most likely (poorly) evidenced by an improved version of the Ford Performance Cobra Jet EV (vids 2 & 3) that is a virtually silent 8 second car as-is. Impressive as the numbers may be, much like every EV out there, it’s missing several intangibles that ICE inherently provides. ⁣
⁣⁣
It’s an event that transcends the typical “automotive enthusiast” requirement. Sure the crowd is largely that, but in a world where answers to most any question can be had within a few keystrokes, it’s rare to witness a spectacle that is truly awe inspiring. taken in Sonoma Raceway Drag Racing by @vandelayindustrys
